Induction

Hi all,

Just a quick post, I am currently over my due date and I have a date to be induced. Can anyone tell me if I need to not eat or not drink before I go in. Also do they keep you in for longer to monitor you after the induction? With my last labour I was only in for 6 hours and then discharged me.

Many thanks

Yes Hun, you can eat before being induced. In fact I'd advise packing a few snacks as it can take a while for things to get going (not always the case mind) and you need to keep your strength up. My induction was almost 2yrs ago now. my little girl was born at midnight & I was home at tea time- only took me so long getting home as I had to go into theatre after the birth for my stitches, had a spinal block so I was waiting for that to wear off & for prescriptions to be sorted etc before they discharged me.

Good luck Hun, hope things start off naturally for you in the mean time xx

Totally agree with cheeky monkey, take snacks! You can eat and drink before, that's fine. Infact I'd say try and have a good big healthy meal to keep your energy up. And money for your partner to buy food. I went in on the Saturday morning of the 29th may, didn't have Niamh until early hours of Monday 1st June. And that's still not long compared to some.

I was allowed out the evening of the 1st june, after I'd proved I could poo and wee. Haha. And the anti-clot medicine was sorted. I would take little cartons of orange juice just to help with the number twos. 😊

Looking back I kind of wished I'd stayed in that night as Niamh was horrible. 😃

Good luck, exciting!! Xx

My husband and I went for a big Sunday roast and pudding at the nearest pub to the hospital as we arrived and the nurse told us there wasn't a midwife available to get things going! I was pleased I did as it kept me going all night until baby arrived at 6.23 am. A friend was induced on Sunday and the baby arrived on Tuesday, so yes, keep your strength up! Good luck x

I was induced and in for a week, it just depends on how your labour progresses and how baby is born! But as others have said you can eat whatever you want, snacks are a must! And anything that helps you be comfortable.

As for the induction, after the first try I had to stay in the bed for an hour, was monitored for about half an hour and was then free to go around but not far (walking distance) from the hospital. So I spent the time walking up and down the back stairwells and in the cafe!

Yep, agree wiv others, eat plenty b4 & take snacks & drinks to keep energy up. I went for brunch morning b4 induction, was induced 2pm Mon 13th April & lb born 12:47am Wed 15th April. Was exhausted & severely dehydrated by end as hospital very warm. Felt the worst Tues evening & 9pm ish onwards 9cm dilated. Had pessary & gel & did labour on gas & air only.

They & my Hubby keen for me to go home Thurs am - I wasn't as I lost lot of blood due to placenta coming in bits, manual removal op & spinal block. Little tyke was 2 weeks late (due April Fools Day - should've known). I went home Thurs lunchtime in end, but was knackered & had lots of iron tabs & paracetamol from hospital; so defo eat when u can!! 😀
