Brown discharge

Hi. I am 10 weeks pregnant but since I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks I have been regularly getting a browny coloured, sometimes very watery discharge (almost feels like I have started to wee sometimes). Anyone else had this? Haven't mentioned anything to midwife as not had any pains.

Hi

If you haven't had any pain that is a really positive sign. From 8 weeks I had brown discharge and then full on blood flow, losing a couple of pints in the end with sausage size clots, the lot ( sorry too much info) and my cervix had opened but no pain. So whilst I ended up in hospital and they kept an eye on me, I am now 36 weeks pregnant with Evie may due on the 19th sept. They said the fact I experienced no pain was a really good sign and they were right.

All I can say is, DO mention it to you're midwife but don't panic. Apparently one in four of us experience something similar with no cause for concern. I was frantic with worry and had 10 weeks of brown discharge in the end. My advice would be to refrain from any sexual activity, tell your midwife and stay positive. This could just be your body adjusting to pregnancy :)

Good luck with everything and don't worry :)

Kind regards

Hi,

I've had regular brown discharge through each of my pregnancies. Was particularly nasty earlier this pregnancy and much wetter than average. Mentioned it to midwife who called in doctor to discuss, and they said that the baby must be putting pressure on exactly the wrong spot and affecting the bladder more than usual. I also found that when doing pelvic floor exercises (if you're not already doing these, start right now!!) I couldn't feel the 'pull' immediately around the urethra. The doctor suggested that nerves were possibly impacted by the pressure of the baby. Fortunately, it cleared up to 'normal' levels (ie mostly during sneezing, coughing etc) after a few weeks.

On a practical note, I found Bodyform had extra long panty liners which were perfect for coping with this situation when it was at its worst!

Regular clear fluid (hard to tell if you have brown discharge) can also be amniotic fluid leaks. Fairly easy to tell the difference - amniotic fluid, no smell; urine leaks, smell. This is not uncommon during pregnancy, and in many cases is not serious. But definitely mention your symptoms to your midwife. If your discharge also has a smell, it can be harder to tell which is which, but your midwife can test to rule out amniotic fluid leaks.

If it's a while before your next visit, perhaps phone to put your mind at rest.

Take care

Hi Volks,

As others have stated from experience above, it is quite normal to experience varying amounts of discharge throughout pregnancy. However, I agree that you may want to speak to your GP or midwife about it as occassionally they test to see if you may have a small infection.

Best of luck, hope this helps!
