Any tips on how to be confidence?

I'm going in for an interview in 2 days, but my last one was years ago. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to calm down and be alittle confidence?

Good luck with your interview,

Something I've found helpful to do is remind myself that the adrenaline that makes you nervous, is the same as what makes a roller-coaster exciting, it's just how your brain is interpreting it. So I always try and refocus on how positive I feel when it's an exciting nervousness.

I also pretend to be a lot more confident than I am, in a fake it till you make it way, act how you think a confident person would. They'd smile, be open, relaxed body posture, ask questions etc.

Have some questions ready for them, they always ask if you've got questions and in the heat of the interview your mind can often go blank. I like to have a few questions just in case I go blank, what training do they offer? Is there good career progression?

I always like to have a negative prepared about me too. I often say I recognise I'm easily distracted and chatty, but that I am aware of it and so make sure that I make sure that I can focus myself when needed and not let myself fall behind on my work. Sometimes I think people struggle with a negative or weakness, but actually if you've identified one and how you've dealt with it, it can become another positive.

I also plan something fun to do after the interview, either to celebrate or commiserate myself, just something simple like having a coffee and bit of cake

Somethings I found which helps me is to remind myself the person interviewing me is human so treat them like one. It sounds silly but they could be nervous if they are not used to interviewing and try to see it more as a chat with another human being.

Interviewing works both ways - you need to understand that it is the right place/job for you so they are also trying to sell themselves to you as well as the other way round.

To help myself calm down I make sure I know exactly where I’m going and research as much as possible, even if I don’t remember half of it when I actually get into the interview. I find that if I’ve got all the practicalities prepared a couple of days before - journey time, outfit, who to ask for when I get there - it makes me feel more prepared so calms me down.

And I totally agree with the previous comment - treat yourself afterwards! The last interview I went to I thought it went horrendously so I went to the supermarket on my way home and got the biggest bar of chocolate which made me feel better because I decided I deserved it! Luckily I got the job as well and am now in my dream job :)

Good luck with it - hope you are successful!
