When in active labour am i allowed to ask someone from the midwife team to leave if they aren’t showing empathy or making me feel comfortable? Keep hearing terrible tales of militant/cold midwives and i don’t it want to shadow my birthing experience? No offence to any midwives on here .

Of course you can, but be mindful if it’s busy then it might not always be possible to switch. Please don’t worry about it too much though, most of them are super lovely. 3 babies and they were all amazing, I even had a student who stayed with me after her shift ended until my partner got to me after I’d had a post birth complication xx
You're allowed to do that at any point you like, if you're unhappy or concerned at any time during your treatment.I'm not sure if you've looked into any hypnobirthing courses or books, but they really helped me be confident in advocating for my birth to look how I wanted it to, while being calm with any necessary interventions.
I'm sorry you've heard a few terrible tales. I've had two babies and can't fault the care I had, some midwives have been better than others but none have been bad. I hope you have a fantastic birth experience and if you're really concerned talk to your midwife at your next appointment for reassurance
