Hi all I have given birth on Monday to my beautiful boy. Just wondering how soon after birth can you get pregnant again?

Well some people get pregnant straight after it’s up to u but I think dr like u to wait a year to let your body fully heal.

Give it a minimum of 6 weeks before you’re sexually active again, but ideally give your body a year to recover x

You need to wait until at least your 6 week post natal check. I was advised without even asking that it’s best to wait at least a year. Even now 13 and a half months later I am still sore where I had stitches and in some places inside. Plus I had a fairly traumatic labours, so didn’t even think about it ...I was straight back on the pill!! Plus, and this isn’t judgmental it’s just advice, my little one began to be fairly active around 7 months...he’s on the go all the time.. we have to chase after him and such. Would you really want a newborn and a 9 month plus active baby/toddler? However that said, each to their own.

I found out I was pregnant when my girl was 10 months old and it felt like a nice enough time to let my body recover and go through it again. But it’s a personal choice I’m sure! x

I can't tell from how you worded the question whether you are asking because you want to try or because you don't want to get caught out. You more fertile just after a pregnancy or after coming off the pill, anything that means your hormones are spiking. Breast feeding supposedly has a natural contraceptive effect but dont rely on that! You'll have a 6 week postnatal check up with the dr where they will discuss your general health, your recovery from birth and your contraception options. Most people are either physically or mentally not ready for intercourse before then and they recommend you wait until that check up.I had a really easy recovery with my first and we were sexually active again straight after that appointment. We would have started trying for our second after 9 months but a house move and job promotion made us hold off an extra 6 months. I'm now 38 weeks pregnant with a third and my second is turning 15 months. It has been harder this time as, whilst she is toddling and climbing stairs, I do have to carry her down the stairs, lift in and out of the high chair and car etc. So bear in mind the physical challenges and level of support you have when picking your timing. A further consideration is childcare - i went back to work after my second maternity leave just as the older one got her free 30hrs nursery placement so our second has taken her space st the childminder and we still only had one lot of childcare to pay for. This time round we will have to pay for childminding for two when I go back to work until the second one gets her free 30hrs and childcare is not cheap!
