Stopping taking aspirin prior to elective c section at 36/37 weeks

So yesterday I saw my consultant and we discussed my birth plan. I wished to have natural birth until my due date, and have elective CS if haven’t started labour by my due date. So a date has already been booked for this. Am having CS because of a previous one I had with my daughter. About a month ago I had a telephone conversation with my consultant and he told me to stop taking aspirin at 36/37 weeks. But yesterday when I asked again he said he would prefer for me to continue until I have gone into labour and he said policies and guidelines have changed about aspirin protocols. I voiced out my concern about risks of more bleeding, he said if I stop my blood pressure could rise. Also he told me aspirin isn’t a blood thinner it helps with good blood flow from placenta to a foetus. He didn’t show me any evidence of these changed policies I searched on nhs website and it is recommended to stop taking aspirin @ 36/37 weeks.

Is anyone been on the similar situation recently or previously. Any reply will be greatly appreciated xx

Hey

I am 36 weeks and have stopped my aspirin, I was on 150mg daily due to preeclampsia with my son whom I had 5 years ago, and I have been told to stop it at 36 weeks. I too plan an elective section which has been booked for 39+3 but if I labour before that I plan to go for VBAC if all goes ok.

Aspirin is an anti platelet drug so definitely thins blood. BP might rise but it shouldn’t rise that much that’s is causes a problem.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply. I am stopping mines too. My BP has been alright even before I was put on aspirin therapy @20 weeks so I believe I’ll be okay. I thought so aspirin do thins blood but didn’t want to argue with consultant. Xx

I had my baby in March. I stopped aspirin at 35 weeks and heparin injection 24hrs before my induction date.
