Hi I had gestational diabetes and am obese, what is it you're worried about mostly and I can let you know if that's anything I found helped. Your midwife will arrange for you to start testing your sugar levels regularly and going through what you should and shouldn't eat. Then you should get a few appointments with your consultant and obstetrician along with a few extra scans to check babies growth. I found it definitely made my diet much healthier and I didn't put any more weight on for the remainder of my pregnancy, my baby wasn't big and only had to have one dose of glucose to top up her blood sugars after she was born and the diabetes went away as soon as she was born.
It does feel scary when you are first told but believe me it is nothing to be scared about. You will have guidance on how to control it and you will be closely monitored. It is hard having to cut out sugar but it is worth it to keep your baby at a good size. My last 2 babies I had GD and they were 8lbs and 9lbs. Also from my first weigh in at the midwife to getting weighed just after I gave birth i had lost 2 stone so it is not all negative xx
