I'm really excited as I'm pregnant with my first baby (6weeks), but like most women also a little anxious. I'm 34 and also have a BMI of over 30 so I know I'm at higher risk of most things like miscarriage, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia etc. When I got my positive test I rang my GP who just said to make an appointment with the midwife for around 8-10 weeks and prescribed me some higher dose folic acid. I've made the appointment with the midwife which they said they wouldn't do before 10 weeks and is just over the phone. I assume from here they'll book me in for my first 12-week scan? Will that leave enough time for my scan to have the necessary screening tests?
I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that this is all on track and I'm not missing anything that I should be doing!
Thanks

Hi I conceived naturally so didn't get any scans until my 12 week scan.
I had my booking in appointment with my midwife at I think between 8 and 10 weeks. I went in a few days earlier to have my bloods taken for the screening tests with a health care assistant, the did my height, weight, took blood and urine samples. So that I could get the results of these at my booking in.
I think with covid, bloods etc are being done at your scans, so this may have changed from when I was pregnant. It will still give you time for the screening, I never waited very long for my appointments to come through, and you can still have the normal screening up to 14 weeks so if you haven't heard about your scan date you have time to chase it up.
At your booking in appointment you go through a quite in depth chat with your midwife and get your pregnancy pack which includes all your information on when to schedule your appointments and lots of information about pregnancy.
Ok so you should get a letter for a appointment to get bloods done which will be before your 12 weeks scan! so when you go for your 12 week scan they have your results ready to make sure there’s no problems etc. But because of the current situation I’m not sure if they will still do it, but I’m pretty sure you still will have them done especially because you say your high risk. And then the next step will be your scan! Wishing you all the best and try not to worry x
Congrats!I had my dating scan, bloods and midwife’s appointment the same day and that was around 11th week. They couldn’t do a reassurance scan cos the Dr on the phone said that the request had to come from the GP if there were any concerns.I know it’s a long wait but there’s no option.
Btw have u done a self referral which is normally done online.
Hi Katesjj, congratulations 😊 I’m also just 6 weeks, and also 34, first pregnancy!! I have been given the same as you, altho when I called the doctors they said they don’t deal with that sort of thing and she gave me the number for the maternity hospital, which I called and was told I’d be called with a booking appointment (could be weeks she told me) and I started taking folic acid myself, no one gave me a prescription for it 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks for your reply and congrats to you too! Ah that's reassuring and I guess things are a bit different with Covid. I ended up sending my doc a quick message as I read some screening should be done before 10 weeks; I'm sure I'm being a worry wart and overthinking it! I'm still waiting to hear back from him.
The only reason the doctor prescribed me folic acid is because my BMI is high so I need a higher dose than you can buy over the counter.
