I have recently found out I am pregnant (4 weeks) with my first baby so it’s all very new to me!
The day I found out, I was having cramps and felt like my period was due so I did a test and it came back positive.
Since then, for the past 3/4 days I have had quite bad cramps on and off, day and night. They wake me up often in the night too.
Each cramp usually lasts for around 10 minutes and it’s really uncomfortable, the only way to ease it a little is sitting on the toilet. Sometimes passing wind or actually ‘using’ the toilet relieves the pain/ pressure but not always.
Is it normal to be having these pains every few hours, and for them to be very uncomfortable?
I have had no bleeding so I’m hoping it’s ok.
Up until falling pregnant I was on the pill for 6 years with no periods whatsoever, so I haven’t experienced a period and the pains for years.
My sister said the pains could be feeling worse than they actually are because I’m not used to feeling any pain down there?
I don’t want to ignore the fact I’m in pain but in the same breath I don’t want to work myself up about it.
Any advice would be appreciated🙏🏼

When I was pregnant I had really bad cramping up until being about 7/8 weeks pregnant was so paranoid my period was coming but was just everything working itself out so try not to worry yourself 🙂
I was in exactly the same boat! I’m coming up to 9 weeks on Sat but I get horrendous cramps, it seems to be me being bloated all the time. My boyfriend has never heard me burp/pass wind so much!
I have so much gaviscon handy (which sometimes doesn’t help). My midwife told me that if the pain changes/gets worse or bleeding happens, call GP/A&E/Early Pregnancy Unit.
I feel bloated often too! And funnily enough I feel a little better once I’ve passed wind, or just sitting on the toilet makes me feel better haha! 🤦🏻♀️
I’m definitely keeping my eye on it and noting things down incase there are any changes, fingers crossed it settles soon because it can be so uncomfortable! X
Hey. I am at the same stage and also having cramps. I would have been due on my period today but had a positive test. I haven’t had my period but still feel like I’m about to come on due the cramps.
Wondering if it is normal? Doctor appointment next Wednesday so I guess I will have to wait and see.
Hey! Exactly the same with me, I would have been due on today too but found out early. It’s mainly been the past 3 days I’ve had such bad cramps, which come and go all day but it feels identical to time of the month.
I spoke to my GP who said it sounds normal as long as there’s no bleeding and it isn’t excruciating, she also asked if I’m taking pregnacare which I said yes, she said this can cause cramping/ stomach issues in early pregnancy as it has so many vitamins in it, some of which you may already be getting enough of in your diet so essentially you may be doubling up on certain vitamins such as iron etc. So she’s told me to come off them for a few days and just take a single folic acid instead so I’m hoping this might help!
