I’m almost 33 weeks with twins and I’ve been awake since 2am with period like cramps - focused around my lower pelvic area along to the right. I’ve taken paracetamol, had a light walk around my bedroom, constantly checked for any bleeding (as I have placenta previa) and watching for movements. Both babies are very active.
I’m starting to feel a little nauseous from the discomfort and wondered if anyone had experienced this and could advise on how to manage the discomfort?
I did try contacting the maternity suite but couldn’t get through and I’ve text my consultant but it’s 5am so may not hear for a while! Mind is in overdrive!!
Any advice welcome xx

Sorry, I know this was a while ago, so hope you're feeling better. Do you have an urgent maternity number? If your maternity unit isn't answering, I had one for getting in touch with my midwife and 1 for getting in touch for urgent things. If you don't have a number and are still in pain call call 111 and we if they can get your an appointment to be checked over. Xx
Thank you for coming back to me. I ended up getting through to my consultant and going to the hospital to be monitored. They appeared to be contractions happening every ten minutes or less but have since eased so I’m home in bed monitoring them and hoping they stay away and don’t come back! A little worried now because if they come back, I have to go back in for steroids and further observation incase it’s turns out to be preterm labour.
Both babies were and have been very active, like having a party inside so they’re happy! But I need them to stay in a little while longer 🤞🏻 Xx
Did they say whether they were Braxton Hicks or were they true contractions? I had a bit of period-like pain a week or so ago but when I read about BH they describe it more of an abdominal tightening than cramping. It did not go on for all that long and baby remained active so did not need to take it further. Glad all is looking OK for you xx
Braxton Hicks are normally just a bit uncomfortable and go away fairly quickly, like you've described. Definitely not as bad as contractions which is more like this poster has described especially with the nausea and having to take paracetamol and then not going after walking about. Braxton hicks for me felt like my belly went completely solid, and uncomfortable, but if I walked around or moved position it would go away.
I did ask about this but they said it didn’t sound like it was that due to it not going away. I hadn’t actually been noticing that they were more intense every so often tbh because the thought never crossed my mind that they’d be contractions and I thought I may be overreacting and maybe just had a bit of normal cramping so I’m glad I had it checked. Apparently it’s uncommon to experience contractions right now, but given I’ve no bleeding or loss of water or worsening of pain and so long as they ease and stay away then it should be okay 😬🤞🏻🍀
I have just finished ordering everything for my hospital bag just incase! Xx
Oh good I'm so glad you went in for monitoring, and that babies are doing well. Rest up and everything crossed for those babies staying put for a few more weeks xx
All okay thank you. Pains gone and I even managed a decent night sleep! Got a scan on Saturday to look forward to so we will see what’s going on inside! Xx
