Ask your GP to refer you for fertility testing

Not sure if it is the same, but the NHS trust policy near us is that you have to be trying for two years before they will refer to OB at the hospital. Not just that but, you have to have seen the doctor throughout to evidence that you've been trying.

Might be different where you live x

How old are you? That can make a big difference in how soon they will refer you XX I went to the GP after trying for over a year and had tests and needed surgeries and Ivf and now have my miracle baby. Good luck to you, I know secondary infertility can be hard and not spoken about enough

i asked about this, when i spoke about my concerns of being able to get pregnant again and was told by my nhs gp that because i've already got a child, despite having problems conceiving, the chances of them helping us was next to non and that we'd have to pay for private. Your gp could very well give different advice so it would always be worth asking. i wish you luck x

Your GP should be able to give you a blood test. There are 2 which can be done. Assuming a 28 day cycle, they can give you a blood test on day 21 or 7 days post ovulation to see whether you are ovulating and another blood test on day 3 to check your ovarian reserve. They can then refer you but it can take a while but don't normally start any treatment until you have been trying for 2 years. Also as you already have a little one some NHS trusts won't fund the treatment but they will carry out tests. I would go and ask the GP for blood tests and see if you can begin the referral process. In the meantime keep trying. I hope you get lucky soon! Also just to let you know I have been pregnant 5 times and each took a different length of time (longest was 19 months the shortest was 2 months) Good luck!

Me and my partner had been trying for 14 months with no luck went to the doctors who sent us both for different test, our doctor said if there was nothing wrong with results then it would be to continue trying until the 2 year point and if something showed up on our results then we would be referred to the fertility clinic. My partner had a low sperm count so we have been referred and we are currently at 18 months trying to conceive. We were suppose to have an appointment to see the fertility doctor last month but this was cancelled as all the clinics have been closed due to covid-19 so we’re still waiting until all settles down again.

Hope this helps and you get some answers soon x
