Hi everyone, I’m 9 weeks +1 and experiencing light bleeding and although I know that this can be normal, I’m worried sick. I’ve got no cramps as of yet and I may possibly have thrush which usually does make me bleed a little, I’ve just got treatment for this too. It just seems heavier and more red than what I usually get with thrush.
I’ve literally only just been signed off from the EPU on Wednesday and baby was healthy with a good heartbeat.
I suppose I just want some reassurance and any similar stories/advice!

Hi KCLou, I had 2 heavy spotting events (6w and 9w) which were both scary but didn’t affect the pregnancy, then this Monday, just 2 days after having my booking appointment I had the most almighty bleed ever. Prob a mug of fresh blood and very dramatic. However, EPU did a quick scan & some blood tests and all was fine - I actually got to see the new human in an above tummy scan too (I can’t make it out on the internal scans as I’ve got a big fibroid in the way) nurse said it’s not the fibroid, it’s not dangerous and it will most likely happen again. They are going to investigate further next week at the 12w scan.
Go to your epu and ask for a scan - these departments seem amazing and totally supportive. Good luck x. Ps they mainly seem open in the morning
Thanks for the reply! This makes me feel a little better. That must have been terrifying but I’m glad everything was fine.
I was in the EPU last week as I bled early on and they were brilliant- kept checking every other week. I’ve had no bleeds at all until yesterday- a few days after being discharged from the EPU because everything looked fine! The bleeding has stopped now so I will see how I go and if I get any pain I will go to a&e. Such a scary time!
I have had 3 miscarriages as well as having 2 healthy pregnancies resulting in my 2 lovely little boys. I had bleeding at 13 weeks with my second son not long after my dating scan. After having had miscarriages I was convinced I lost him. But we managed to hear his heartbeat and now he's a happy and healthy 6 month old. I hope all is good with you and the bleeding stops soon!
I had a miscarriage last year but had no bleeding, or any signs really. So this time round I’m extra panicky either way! Such an awful time and will feel a bit better when I get to 12 weeks, thanks for making me feel better out the whole situation x
I had brown blood at 5 weeks and bright red blood at 9 weeks. I had scans at the EPU for both. At the 9 week one the sonographer reassured me that the blood was the placenta kicking in. Scared the life out of me at the time but i now have a 15 week old baby 😊
Congratulations, that’s lovely news! Thank you for sharing that! I’ve literally just started bleeding again bright red blood but it’s not loads and I’m just praying it’s the same thing as you. I will ring the EPU in the morning, so nervous
I remember that feeling well. It wasn’t lots of blood, mainly when wiping myself. But the bright colour was shocking to see at the time. I always had it in my head that any bleeding in pregnancy was bad, but have since found out it’s pretty common. I ha everything crossed for you x
That’s understandable, you’re trying to prepare yourself just in case. A friend is in early weeks of pregnancy, has a difficult fertility history, and started cramping two weeks ago. Convinced herself it was a missed miscarriage. Her scan last week confirmed she’s 8 weeks with a healthy heartbeat seen. There’s still hope 🤞🏼🤞🏼
I can understand how you feel, but just try to relax or when you are suoer worried then go to the hospital and have it checked! Even if you show there up often, better going there too often then not often enough.
I have quite some bleeding every 2-3 weeks. first started at 16 weeks (got an emergency scan because I was freaking out). 2 weeks later I was travelling for a business trip and ended up in hospital in Germany, there they found the source of bleeding, which is harmless! Now it just comes and goes but my baby is fine.
There are so many reasons for bleeding, especially in the beginning, and as long as you dont have any pain and it is not continuously it is nothing to worry - thats what the midwifes in UK and Germany told me.
