Me again with another question (honestly im stressing waaay too much). Today I’ve noticed that I’ve got lower back pain that is shooting right into my bum. Now today is the first day that I’ve been out for longer than 15 mins walking. I’ve also not slept at all in this heat for the last 2 days so I’m shattered too. I’m just panicking about the worst, is this pain normal/who should I call if not?
EDIT - I’m 11 weeks tomorrow

So you’ve not been moving around/exercising much and it hurts now that you do? Your pain is not likely to have anything to do with you being pregnant.
It’s because you haven’t moved around enough and your body doesn’t like it. It’s stiff, uncomfortable and unhappy. It could be sciatic if it’s a shooting pain but nothing exercise won’t fix.
You can look on YouTube for some sciatic stretches but the main thing people have to keep doing during pregnancy is keep active/exercise.
You can’t expect your body to go through the rigours of pregnancy without you putting some effort into keeping it going and strengthening it up.
I say this as a pre- post-natal PT. I have trained many women who did not exercise enough during pregnancy and they always regret it. Pregnancy and giving birth is an amazing thing but it’s tougher on the body than most people seem to think.
I haven’t really been moving around because I’m working from home and I’ve been bed bound with my morning sickness. I’ve been trying to do little exercise but I’ve been so ill for the past 6 weeks. I also was suffering from hip pain every day for the past 10 months from a gyno surgery I had/was due to re-have.
I totally get that my body is going through a lot, but I’m literally pregnant for the first time and I don’t have a lot of help/people to talk to irl. I’ll take a look at the exercises, thank you for your advice but please take into consideration others situations before assuming the worst.
It could be sciatica, I’ve read that as things start to move apart you get loads of aches and pains. I’ve been getting lower back ache and bought a support vest which is quite tight to get on but then is really supportive and takes away any aches when it’s on so something like that could also help. It doesn’t help that we’ve all been sitting around so much either! You could also try some back strengthening exercises xx
Ahh thanks so much, my boyfriend had to help me out of bed this morning because I just couldn’t move. It’s so weird, I had back pain before but it has all of a sudden got worse!
I have sciatica and the description sounds like it. I have a few attacks a week but I've had them even before pregnancy... now it is just slightly more episodes of the pain. Sometimes my leg gives out. Would recommend seeking physician advise.
I had dull aching in my buttocks around 9 weeks, felt like I had done squats, which I hadn't! couldn't sit down, but it also ached when I stood. Luckily it calmed itself down a couple of days later. I found a nice warm bath helped, and plenty of fluid. Hope it rectifies itself soon. If not, maybe get in touch with midwife/gp as they might be able to give you some exercises to do to ease the pain/discomfort xx
Tbh I’m suffering in general with the heat etc, which isn’t helping. It was okay yesterday but last night I could not sleep due to it. I have a midwife app next week, so I was gunna wait it out. Thanks xx
Look up round ligament pains and pelvic girdle pain for similiar symptoms. These are two conditions that affect women during pregnancy. It's may seem early in ur pregnancy but the hormones are kicking in already. Mention it to your midwife/obstetrician during your booking visit. They could refer you to physio. I have a hard time trying to turn around in bed at 35wks. Advice midwife gave me was to sleep in side with thin pillow/cushion between my knees. I also put another cushion under my bump. Gentle exercises like walking/yoga are very important. Good luck ☘
I couldn’t sleep last night and I was awake at 5am, put a pillow in between my legs and got a few hours sleep. I mentioned my hip pain to them already, so they are aware that I’ve had existing issues. I’m going to try wait it out till next week when I’m going there.
