Placenta praevia grade 2 - 32 week scan

Hi,

I was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning as I woke up with bleeding. I called the hospital and they told me to come in straight away as placenta praevia was diagnosed at my previous scan. Thankfully the bleeding was from my cervix rather than placenta but I was kept in for scans and monitoring for 24 hours. I had an ultrasound which confirmed that I still have grade 2 placenta previa at 32 weeks.

I am a bit nervous about the possibility of a c section, particularly as I would need a general anaesthetic due to other medical conditions.

Does anyone have any experience of placenta praevia? Did you have a vaginal birth or c section?

Thanks.

Hello. I had placenta previa where it was completely covering my cervix so a c-section was my only option. I had a tiny bleed at 23wks but it was hardly anything so was only in hospital a couple of hours. I got to 34wks and I went for my growth scan and when I went to get off the scan bed I felt like I had wet myself but I hadn't I was bleeding really heavily no pain and blood pressure was normal but I got taken to the labour ward and I was on and off bleeding through the night but I was losing blood from my placenta and I had lost too much so I had to have an emergency c-section the next day. Luckily she was born weighing 5lbs 2oz and everything went well. She had to go to special care unit as she had a lot of fluid on her lungs but she was only in there for 11 days and we went home. It was a bit traumatic as we weren't ready and it went very quick from bleeding to her being here. But try not to worry and just keep speaking to your midwife or consultant about any worries. I was lucky the staff were so lovely and helpful afterwards x.

Thanks for your reply! I am really pleased to hear that it went well for you in the end.

It was such a worrying experience this week and the hospital were so good. I felt really reassured as they took it really seriously and took all the precautions. I am resting at home for a couple of days before my maternity leave starts in 2 weeks' time. It has made me realise that I definitely need to get my hospital bag ready just in case now! x
