GestationalDiabetes in the first trimester

Hi,

I’m really worried, I have had gestational diabetes in a previous pregnancy so decided to test myself at 10 weeks and found out I had it again, the hospital wouldn’t do a GTT test until 16 weeks which was on Monday confirming I have it. However when I saw the diabetic nurse today she said I should have been on insulin for the past 6 weeks and my high readings (despite trying to control them with diet) means I could have done harm to my baby and caused birth defects. I’m now terrified....anyone had similar? I’m wondering what the chances are that my baby will have been affected....

Did the nurse actually say that to you?😮. I had it for probably 3 weeks before I was diagnosed but I was told if I ever had another child they would put me on insulin right away! If I were you I’d phone the maternity unit and voice your concerns and they may get you in for an earlier scan. If you had it before they should have checked you earlier. I’m actually angry for you.x
