Doctor or Midwife?

Hi ladies!

So I’ve been experiencing headaches/foggy head/sinus discomfort since the start of the second trimester. It happens nearly every week and lasts a day or two. This time it lasted pretty much all week. There is a lot of cold going around work so it could just be that? I had my 16 week check and the midwife said everything is fine and to keep my fluids up. My work ‘Mums’ are worried and insisted I go and see the doctor this week, just to double check me over. Would you agree that’s the right thing or should I contact the midwife? They say the second trimester is meant to be the good one, I’m yet to see that🙈

xx

If you are worried and it’s still happening I’d say go see the GP, especially since you say the episodes are getting longer. The GP won’t mind even if there is nothing wrong and you just need to wait it out, midwives are great but they don’t have the same medical training as a GP, it’s likely she said not to worry as it won’t harm the baby but if it’s bothering you it probably needs looking at. Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy x

Nasal stuffiness and headaches are, from what I’ve read, more common at this point in the second trimester (which is where I am too - nearly 17 weeks). I’ve had occasional headaches, minor nose bleeds and stuffiness on and off for a couple of weeks now. This morning I woke up barely able to breathe through my nose 🙄

I had a midwife apt last week and blood pressure etc were all ok, as long as that’s the case I’m not going to worry. Of course i’ll get checked out if headaches intensify or become prolonged to be sure it’s not a sign of preeclampsia.

And I hear you regarding not experiencing the benefits of the second trimester yet! Still got the nausea, morning sickness and tiredness 🙈

Agree- I have same issue. Our body makes more body fluids and our blood volume rises... Joys of pregnancy - blocked sinuses , nose bleeds, nausea etc etc...

No harm in seeing the doctor ☺️ I had headaches all through second trimester - think it’s due to the rise in progesterone. Good luck!!x

Sorry you are suffering. I would see your doctor in case you have an infection. I saw my doctor over sinus issues & have been referred to a specialist ( they’ve been ongoing 8 years!) Hope you feel better soon xoxo

Omg same! I’m in second trimester and I get headaches all the time! I never know if to go to midwife or GP for things. I get dizzy spells to and hot flushes lol I’m still waiting to see the good trimester😂I can’t even stand up without getting head-rush lol

I would go to your GP though your midwife would as well. They will probably do blood tests for your iron levels etc and check you don’t have infection. I’ve had 2 different infections since been pregnant and both of them made me feel very tired and headaches and dizzy. There’s no harm in going GP what they are there for and your health important as much as baby, it won’t be effecting baby just you x

I am the same. 24w now and having weekly migraine that lasts 2 days - I basically stay in the bed those days as I can't function, vomit. The migraine always starts and ends in my sinuses 😭

I had the same (headaches/sinus) feels like a cold is trying to come out but never quite makes it. There isn’t much info about it online either. It did settle down after a good few weeks! And then the good part of the trimester arrived 🙌🏼 Hold out ladies!! Lots of fluids and rest on days when it hits. xx

Look up pregnancy rhinitis, I've had it since 16 weeks and its doing my head in, mainly just congested and stuffy permanently but I have had days where it's given me a headache, probably due to sinus blockage and it can sometimes lead to sinusitis. The first few days I got it I must have blown my nose 500 times. I've been using a saline nose spray recommended by the pharmacist and whilst it hasn't cured it, it has made it much more manageable and comfortable. It's called Sterimar and is suitable during pregnancy, I got it from Boots. Like everyone says though, get checked out by your doctor first if you're worried. Rhinitis can last for the rest of the pregnancy, oh joy of joys!!
