16 week midwife appointment

Hi, I’m getting to be a regular on here!! I just wanted to ask about your experiences of the 16 week midwife appointment. I had mine yesterday and was a bit disappointed as the midwife wasn’t there and I only got to see the student midwife. She checked my blood pressure and urine sample and said they were fine and that was basically it. I felt like I was in and out of there so quickly and would have liked more time to discuss the pregnancy and ask questions. Now I feel like I’m on my own again until the 20 week scan...but is that just how the 16 week appt always is??

Mine was literally the same thing really. She listened to the heartbeat too but don’t think that’s very common from what I’ve read on here as it can be difficult to find. My 25 week one wasn’t really much else either just talked a bit about movement and the next blood tests x

Mine lasted a while. She listened to his heartbeat, checked my urine, put my results for the Edmunds and Downs in the system and talked about our next appointment. It took longer because I had a rash that was unusual so she did bloods n I had referrals. If you're still concerned, book another appointment with her hun x

Mine was just blood pressure and urine too. I requested a heartbeat check but as mermaid says this isn't something all midwifes do. I was surprised the first time I was pregnant as the booking appointment takes so long but after that if they are short it's usually a good thing because there is no issues. I usually go with a list of questions to ask because I forget to ask otherwise, just things I've thought of over the last few weeks.

Don’t mean to disappoint you but I’m 37 weeks and my Midwife still only checks my blood pressure and urine sample. It’s abissmal. I find it incredibly frustrating especially being a first time mum. I feel they should make the appointments longer for us so we can discuss things that are worrying us (everything!). I often go home after my appointments feeling deflated. Remember that there is a lot of support on here and other forums if you need to talk about anything.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

Darling so sorry to hear that.

My MW was actually great, she always took the time to answer all of my questions as well as making sure I was alright. But I heard that I was lucky as my pregnant friends didn't receive the same treatment by their MW.

Hang in there and enjoy your pregnancy

At 16 weeks I had urine test, blood pressure check and a chat about the purpose of the 20 week scan (abnormality scan).

Thank you for all of these replies, I hope the next appointment might be better ... I would love to listen to the heartbeat! Hope it’s all going well for you :-)
