I'm 6.5 weeks pregnant & I moved to the UK in January with a job offer. So there is so much that I don't know about the system here! I registered with a GP surgery when I first arrived, but never really had to communicate with them until I got pregnant. When I called them they transfered me directly to the midwifery service, which in turn gave me an appointment at week 8 (15 July).
I have really strong nausea at the moment. It is very hard for me to do anything in the morning or go to work. A small cracker before I leave bed in the morning doesn't help much & I'm also quite constipated! It also really aggravates when I walk or take any transport (& I commute for my job!)
When I check online, it tells me to ask my doctor because they can give me something to help. Would this be the midwife on my next appointment? Or do I call the GP and request to see a doctor before then? Will they let me?

I would contact your gp and explain to them how sick you are and how it’s affecting your day to day routine and job , they may prescribe you some anti sickness tablets which should help. All the best with your pregnancy xx
Well, ginger tea works a bit for me, maybe some cold milk and raw carrots,also acupunture is very good. The best infact. You may find it stops by the 12th week or so.
I went to the GP this morning, but she did not prescribe anything for me. She told me to avoid triggers & work from home when I can. She also said to get travel sickness wrist bands, which I did.
I wish I didn't have to work from home! I don't know how long this will last & I was hoping to get something to relieve it
They will only prescribe medications to pregnant women when they have to, if your capable of keeping food and water down they will ask you to use other methods of managing sickness first.
In general the medications prescribed for severe morning sickness just stop you physically being sick, they won’t completely get rid of nausea. If you can keep things down then there isn’t much use for them. Sadly there is no magic cure for this type of nausea, Most women struggle a lot through first trimester you just have to find little things that help - melon and grapes, salt and vinegar crisps and dry toast helped me a lot as well as staying really well hydrated. Keep busy as well as it will distract you from the feeling!
Keep snacking! I had a family sized bag of salt and vinegar crisps on my desk/in my pocket and just grabbed a couple every half hour or so to keep me going. Do what you need to do - your boss should be understanding especially if the alternative is being sick! Kept the nausea at bay. Mine was completely gone by week 13/14 and it had eased off loads before then. Hope you feel better soon!
Hi , I wad the same and it usually stops about 12 weeks I really struggled and i spoke to my doctor and they can't give anything until 12 weeks because of the risks, however try to eat fruit as its high in sugar or just dry toast or anything with ginger in xx
Not sure about this as I was given cyclizine before 12 weeks this time round as last pregnancy I was admitted to hospital 3 times before 12 weeks with severe morning sickness that had me throwing up blood and everything I put in me including sips of water. So this time around the Dr just put me straight onto anti sickness meds again as I was already throwing up everything before 12 weeks again
Yes but they don't like to give you any thing unless obviously it is really server as I was bad as it was all day not just morning but due to the side effect they don't like to give it to you x
