Reasons for miscarriage after ivf

Hi everyone

I just miscarried in the 6th week after a BFP. Anyone out there had a similar experience? What did your OBGYN say the reason could have been?? Is that the embryo or the failure to implant or something else?

So so sorry to hear this honey. Sadly, a lot of the time, a miscarriage can’t be explained.

I had mine while I was on fertility treatment, not through ivf, and I couldn’t get any answers as to why it happened.

Look after yourself. Be kind to yourself. Let yourself grieve and give yourself time.

I really hope you’re able to have another chance with ivf, but don’t rush into it, time is a great healer.

Sending gentle hugs xx

Yeah.. sure.. Thanks chlobo

Normally they don’t know why unless they test the tissue or run other tests which you’ve probably had during ivf? Like thyroid testing or clotting disorders etc. Usually it’s chromosomal and fails to grow unfortunately. I’ve had 3 mc now and just had a few tests done waiting for results they said most likely egg quality I’m nearly 39. Sorry for you loss it’s devastating especially after ivf must be extra difficult xx

Had all hormonal tests done. Normal. If I had spotting disorders wouldn't I have known in some context? Is it not possible?

Unfortunately no, they need to do tests to work this out. As said above unfortunately they just don't know the reasons. Usually it is chromosomal - or put down to that. Lots of women have miscarriages and don't even realise too - that's the other one that is told a lot.

I am so sorry for your loss. Hopefully you do find some answers. Usually clinics don't investigate further until 3 losses which is insane.

Take the time to heal, do some research and hopefully next time you will get your baby xx

I am sorry there is no answer. It's so frustrating, annoying and heartbreaking. Unfortunately a lot of us on here have been through it. It doesn't make it any easier. We can only hope that in the future it will be very clear and straightforward. Xx

How long does it take to get my period after m/c? I have been having Brown discharge for the past 4.5 days. Is it normal? Is that not fresh red blood? Can someone throw some light on this?

I’ve just got mine back after 30 days had a mva on 5th Jan @12w ☹️ but glad it’s back so we can try again it’s exhausting!

I have had 4 rounds of IVF of which 2 were unsuccessful, and one was a miscarriage and fourth was a healthy baby. I know it’s hard but try to move on from the miscarriage quickly and focus on a new cycle. Time was running out for me so I couldn’t allow myself a break in treatment and my specialist said it didn’t make any difference to wait and at least the miscarriage was a sign that I could get pregnant, I used intripleds and steroids for my successful cycle but I am still not sure I needed them but I was wanting to try anything to improve my chances. I think also you know so much earlier when it’s an ivf pregnancy that results in a miscarriage. Try to stay positive, allow yourself a few glasses of wine but then get back into your healthy routine and best of luck with your treatment x

I’m so sorry such a hard thing to ever get answers for. I had a miscarriage on our first round of IVF at the beginning of December and got my period back as normal straight away. I then fell pregnant naturally in January but again sadly lost the baby again at 8w. We went to a consultant and were advised to take baby aspirin when trying and managed to fall pregnant again in May. They did though in this time find and remove a fibroid which might or might not have been the reason I will never know. Xxx I wish you lots of future luck though x
