I have a Moses basket for downstairs during the day and a next to me crib for the bedroom and nights. Not that she’s currently sleeping in either with silent reflux issues! Day times are currently on me/in a sling and bedtimes we are co sleeping with the next to me being an expensive pillow storage device for night feedings 😂 She still fits the Moses basket at nearly 12 weeks but I didn’t buy it, my late mum had bought one a few years ago from a charity shop and quilted a lovely bumper for the inside and bought a new mattress for it so it quite special for us to use it ❤️ If I was to do it all again I’d still buy the same items if that helps? All the best whatever you decide to get, there is so much baby stuff out there it’s hard to make a decision and not have moths inhabiting your wallet! x

Personally I'd say don't bother wi th a moses basket. They are in it for such a short amount of time (and they may not even take to it).

I had a sleepyhead inside a bedside crib (chico next to me). Then baby slept in his carry cot during the day. We lived in a flat so I was always nearby.

Hi, can I ask how long did you use the sleepyhead for? It says up to 8 months, but I think 8-month old baby won’t fit there! x

I can't remember sorry. I think until about 5-6 months, maybe less. Then I just lay him directly in the crib. We used it until he was about 8 months old and he started to sit up and reach over.

Thank you very much that’s all I needed to know :) xx

I haven’t yet brought anything but am aiming to get a snuzpod 3 rather a Moses basket. I’ve read quite good reviews on them and they have a reflux tilt xx

Next to me can be tilted too.

We have a cotbed upstairs which she used all of two weeks before coming in with us (big mistake had weeks of hard work when we mover her out at one year old), now thankfully in the cotbed.

But she also had a crib downstairs and didn’t like that either used it for about 2 weeks, this for us was a big mistake as we ended up doing nap time in our bed also (I was always with her, so she didn’t roll out). Everyone in our family said we should of got a Moses basket and she would have slept in that better, obviously I don’t know this for sure, but next time (if I can convince my partner to have another) we will try and Moses basket, and never let him/her in with us!

Hope my experience helps with your decision! Best of luck! Rebecca

I had a moses basket for my daughter a few years ago, but didn't like it too much. For this baby were going to get a next to me crib xx

We had a next to me crib x

We started off with a Moses basket but it was a waste of time as she was in it for 8 weeks. We bought a next to me crib and that was great and also handy to take when visiting family x

I was thinking about getting one of those hammock beds?

Those are a SIDS risk!!

in reply tobabymamajewels

I have read conflicting reports on that. Two of my friends had them and said they were amazing for their babies, although only last up to 6 months.

It's more of a SIDS risk to have your baby sleep in your bed with you. Of course I am fully looking into it and asking my midwife etc before any decision but if you can show me evidence that it's a SIDS risk then that would help my decision. Xx

I had moses basket which hardly got used. I got the chicco next to me crib which I love x

Bought a moses and a crib. Has my baby ever slept in either of them? No. No she has not lol.

I bought a "chicco next 2 me" and it was a life saver, also bought a babydan sleep pod. If you're planning on breastfeeding (and even if you're not!) I would definitely invest in a chicco or a snuzpod. And a pod. Sleepyheads are great but I found them expensive so we went for the babydan.

When baby grew out of the chicco we bought a space saver cot off amazon, built it without one of the sides, and attached it to the side if our bed so the crib mattress is flush against our mattress.

Some babies seems to sleep fine in cribs and baskets but lots arent. And you never know until they're born what sort of baby you have! Xx

I had both a Moses basket and chicco next to me, he would NOT sleep in the Moses basket I tried for the first 5 days, and then gave up and tried again 2 weeks later - nope!) and initially only in the chicco if he was in a sleep pod too but this is a sids risk so we eventually got him sleeping just in the chicco. Babies are all different and it seems to be trial and error to find what they like 🤷🏼‍♀️

With my first I had borrowed a Moses basket for my room and had a cotbed in nursery I was breastfeeding so was in bed with me some of the night she was a crappy sleeper while breastfeeding actually isn’t the best sleeper now at 13yrs. My second I put the cotbed in our room no basket for 3 mths then she went into her room. Really good baby. I had everything for my 2 spend a fortune, I would get absolute minimal now most things aren’t needed.

My SIL used one ose those cardboard boxes so that's what we're going to use. Lidl currently have an offer on to get a free one with a few extras for doing some online baby classes.

I found mine too stimulating for my daughter to sleep in after the first few weeks as it has pictures all over the inside. She still loves to lie in it and look at them though, at 16 weeks.

lidl.co.uk/en/Baby-Box-1643...

These boxes are a Danish thing and given to all new Danish mums.

I have one of those Lidl boxes and I certainly won’t be putting my baby into it- why? It stinks! It’s sat in my living room for the past four weeks and the chemical smell is still very strong. It can’t be good for a baby to breath that in.

Next to me crib (don’t actually have it next to me), bought second hand and washed thoroughly then put a new mattress in. Then the carrycot off the pram for daytime naps.
