Bed wetting

I have a large family, 4 children, 3 eldest are step children, they spend 3 nights a week at their mums rest with us. Our 7 and 9 year old still both wet the bed, 7yr old boy tells us if he has, and some times goes through a few weeks of not doing it at ours but will then start again and do it most nights. 9yr old is less frequent but still more than she should at that age, but she doesn’t tell us, she will come down in same pj’s, or put her pj’s in her bed or draw and not say anything. She’ll hide her underwear. I have to check her bunk bed each morning or her pants when she’s gone to school to check. What Can I do! All health care professionals say it’s more common than I realise. But it doesn’t help have so much washing etc... it’s frustrating. What Can I do?

My nephew does this he is also 9 my my sister pushed for tests etc to be done to find out he has a enlarged kidney which is pressing on his bladder making him pee but he also pee in the day too. But get them check for bladder infection as that can cause bed wetting too

Maybe get a relevant book and read it together?

There must be something that triggers it. Perhaps keeping a diary to see a pattern?

Good luck.

It is very hard work and makes it even more difficult to spend time with them. Ironically.

Bed wetting is very common. There are a few medical things that can be done but that depends on the cause of it. Do you think it could be related to stress since it seems to come and go??

I wonder about that, the living situation is stable but not ideal with spending 3 nights with mum and 4 with us, they always prefer to stay with us, but obviously love seeing theu too. But I just wondering if it’s too fragmented for the kids. My son is with his dad every other weekend and so he doesn’t have any of the Afro they have in terms of where’s this where’s that, is it left at mums or dads etc... but i don’t know if that’s the cause as they are very happy Kids. But from a personal view I wouldn’t allow an arrangement like that for my own child I just go with it as it’s my partners and his ex’s arrangement. But likewise I don’t know what goes on at their mums house and the kids are very secretive especially the older girl, they are very (overly in my opinion) aware of what they should and shouldn’t say in from of either parent! Who knows. It’s a lot to delve into.

I agree- there are so many read be bed wetting happens.

From my experience: My sister stopped wetting bed after my parents got divorced and we moved out and had relaxing environment. I think it took toll on her: our parents arguments and aggression in the house.

I hope it will reverse soon as I can imagine - it's so time-consuming to check beds and wash bedding..

My 8 year old son has this problem n I understand there is a bed wetting gene. Stick with it Hun. I’m sure you are doing your best n I do think it will settle down. My son had the medication but took him off it as it really upset his moods. There is an alarm you can try xxx

I would have them use it right before sleeping and wake them through the night to use it also! Consult with a MD /Pediatrician if that doesn't help! Best wishes ❤️

I read somewhere that it can be a sign of a urine infection. So get the children checked for that. But the fact that two of them are doing it, do you think it could be linked to the fact they are not settled, as in living with you a few days and their mum the rest of the week? Have you spoken to their mum to see if she is having similar issues too?
