Im 19 and we lost our baby not long ago I've been sick and went to the doctor a urine test came back positive with a faint line but my blood work is negative. I've been feeling butterflies and pains in my belly my breast have gotten harder and I've shown all signs of pregnancy. What do I do?

Hi Confused02. Sorry to hear of your loss x

Feeling butterflies in your belly would not be from a baby at this early stage unfortunately.

My advice would be to wait another few days and take another test. I hope you get another positive 💗

If you do not though, give yourself time x

I've missed there periods and was diagnosed with a cyst on my ovaries a month ago and I've had six ct scans. The doctors urine test was positive but my blood work was negative

Oh thats not nice for you at all!!

As mentioned try another test if you are unsure.

Hcg levels may not have been picked up in your bloods if you are very early. They say it is common to have a false negative but not common to have a false positive...

However, hcg levels can be picked up at low concentrations on home pregnancy tests now and it could be possible for those levels to show as a positive result in the immediate days or immediate weeks after a miscarriage.

Time will tell you. Good luck x

If there are any hormone levels in your blood, in particular to the point that they show on a home pregnancy test then they would also show in blood tests. Having bloods will be the most accurate way.

Without wanting to destroy your hopes (I really do keep my fingers crossed for you), you may have had a very early miscarriage? How long was it between the Home pregnancy test and the blood test? Levels may have fallen between those two?

All the best!

I didn't do home tests it was a urine test at the doctor when he said I was pregnant

It’s the same result, in the end.

The urine tests that the GPS use will pick up from 10mlu (hormone level), some pregnancy tests you buy to do at home pick up at 10, some at 20 or 25mlu.

If the Gp urine test came back positive, you must’ve had at least a level of 10.

A blood test picks up ANY level (even below 10 as it just picks up whatever is there), so is a lot more accurate.

If the urine test showed positive but the bloods nothing it can really only mean one of two things:

- The pregnancy test (urine) was inaccurate

- your levels have fallen from already quite low to non-existent, ie a very early/chemical miscarriage

Personally I’d certainly test again, both urine and if possible bloods again. But if the bloods showed negative then it’s not looking too promising, sadly.

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. It may take some time until your hormone levels come back to normal and in the meantime you may be feeling pregnancy symptoms. The same thing happened to me. I would test again after a week and then I would go to the gp if I was worried.

Not what you're looking for?
