Umbilical Granuloma

My son is now 10 weeks old. We were only told last week that he has an umbilical granuloma. Explains why he has regular yellowy like discharge on his clothing.

We were asking the question for weeks on end only to be told it’s normal and every baby heals differently.

Now, our new health visitor has advised us to put salt on it twice/day for days to help dry it? And hope it helps with the healing process?

Also told that in the old days, silver nitrate was used but that’s no longer considered safe treatment.

Then told, if no better - go see your GP.

Unfortunately my GP never even diagnosed the umbilical granuloma and I have very little faith in my GP in treatment of my son, as in his own words, he doesn’t know a great deal about babies!

Anybody with experience of this with their child or know more about this... any help and guidance would be welcome.

Many thanks

I recommend Octenisept. You can find it on ebay. Worth every penny. UK doctors approved. I use it for both of my children and myself (after C-section).

It's antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial spray. Also helps with healing.

Still using it when anyone hurts themselves. I simply spray the area and let it dry itself or use kitchen towel.

I hope it will be better soon x
