So I took two pregnancy tests last weekend and it turns out I’m pregnant!! This is my first pregnancy and I’m slightly scared, nervous and excited. When I told my partner he said he had a feeling because I complained about my breasts feeling sore and heavy. I want to allow myself to get excited but I have seen and read many horror stories on the internet. How do I allow myself to believe I’m having a baby? Should I get excited? And should I tell my employers? I have an appoiment today with my nurse hopefully she will be able to calculate how far I am and put my mind at ease! The first day of my last period was 3/4/18. I have been out and didn’t realise I was pregnant until this weekend and have been drinking (not heavily) will this harm my unborn baby?? X

Congratulations! So you could be 10 weeks pregnant!? I'm just over a 11 and although I have had two scans, I still struggle to believe I'm pregnant, especially as I've never had too many symptoms. A lot of ladies don't know that they're pregnant, so try not to worry about drinking. Just make sure you look after yourself from now on. The horror stories get at me too!! Never heard of a lot of stuff that I've read recently and think I won't be able to relax until next week at my 12 week scan. Good luck at your appointment xx
Thanks Michelle, I have booked to see a midwife because I just want to be sure how many weeks I am. The nurse today told me that I can get excited but to hold off from telling everyone and to just be mindful of lifting and pushing. She also mentioned to stay away from cheese 🙈🧀
Cheese???!!!!! Whhhy? I mean Yeh don't eat blue cheese, brie etc. Normal cheese is fine and reduce your caffeine intake. If you go on the NHS website, it will tell you what you need to avoid. You'll need to see the midwives anyway, they'll give you a pack, take bloods etc and will be able to book you in for your dating scan. Which hopefully you won't have to wait much longer for. Keep us posted xx
I think that’s what she meant when she said cheese Brie, camambert etc. I will read through the nhs site and see what comes up. I’m hoping she’ll be a lot more informative than the nurse was today. The nurse was great but there’s a lot she didn’t know in regard to pregnancy. I’m seeing the midwife the 22nd so will update then💕
Yeh you definitely need to take vitamin D and folic acid, they are really important for the development of the fetus and really should be taken before conception, although that's not always possible lol. Avoid vitamin A! The midwife will definitely help you more. Even though Google can be your worse enemy, I'd recommend just having a Google at what you need to do etc. Xx
Congratulations wow yeah 10 weeks you’ll be getting your scan very soon so you can relax it won’t be long for u. I found out I was pregnant with my first at about 10 weeks. Drinking is unlikely to affect your baby unless your a heavy drinker so don’t worry.
Awww thank you that’s really put me at ease, I’m not a heavy drink just occasional. What was your first pregnancy like? What did you feel and experience st 10 weeks?? Xx
I had really bad cramps so I tested it was negative eventually they eased off so I thought I wasn’t I had sore boobs for ages I kept saying I must be but hadn’t tested again. I had no period but because I’d just come off the pill I thought my body’s just adjusting. My pregnancies have been no bother I don’t get sick or put loads of weight on etc just get achy hips but fine other than that. I’m currently 6w + 2 days with my 4th pregnancy mc my last.
Use the internet you’ll find everything you need to know about pregnancy, your midwife should have definitely mentioned folic acid or even a pregnancy multi vit. You’ll get 2 scans first at around 12 week then 20 where u can find out baby’s gender if you wish. Usually bloods and urine is tested throughout your pregnancy.
The NCT website is really useful as well and from 20 weeks you can book into antenatal classes.
I found out I was pregnant after a night out and my “hangover” didn’t feel right unfortunately I was out with the same people the next day so had to make up an excuse!
I told my manager so they were aware for any appointments or if there were any issues as you can’t be penalised for pregnancy related absence. Luckily I had no issues and just the regular appointments.
We didn’t announce officially (some people knew) until 20 weeks as a friend at work passed away when I was 12 weeks and it didn’t feel right but it’s up to you when and how you tell people
Congratulations! Do not worry too much about the alcohol. Research shows that it's more regular drinking and binge drinking episode that is likely to have effects on your baby. And now that you know 0 alcohol If you struggle in a social event with the not drinking alcohol I pretend I have stomach aches, took my colleagues quite a while to notice I was pregnant with this trick.
As all the ladies said NHS website is wonderful for info on pregnancy like food to avoid, what to expect, common symptoms... NCT website as well is really good.
Do allow your self to be happy and celebrate! Even if it stressful to wait until your 12week scan.
In term of your employer, it's up to you, many women's waits until 12W scan. Legally you are required to announce your 15weeks before your due date, which is at 25 weeks but your bump maybe a bit hard to hide at this stage ^^.
Best of luck with your first experience it will be wonderful!!
