Safe to dye hair and other questions

Might be a silly question and I’m overthinking everything, but since finding out we’re definitely pregnant I’ve had so many questions running through my mind.. Hoping someone can help me out x

1) Is it safe to dye your hair at the hairdressers? Or do I need to inform mine so she can check her products?

2) Is it safe to eat ham / cured meats in a toastie? I know you can’t otherwise.

3) What stretch mark creams / oils are good? And when do you start using them?

4) At how many weeks did you start telling friends and colleagues you were pregnant? We’re telling our parents this week!

The questions might grow as the emotions and reality of it all kicks in 😀 xx

Congratulations!

I used Clairol Natural Instincts when I was pregnant after some research. I found varying opinions on hair dye and the usual “I did and no issue”, but I wanted to be super cautious.

The meat needs to be cooked, and not sure it would get throughly cooked in a toastie? I had pepperoni on my pizza.

I used Palmers cocoa butter as soon as I found out I was pregnant.

I didn’t tell most people until after my 12 weeks scan. I did tell people closest to me so parents siblings close close friends virtually straight away!

I have switched to ammonia free hair dye (that I do at home) garnier olia but if you are going to dye at hairdressers with ammonia one then I would wait until 2nd trimester. Defo tell your hairdresser but there approach/advice varies in my experience so I would make my own mind up first on what you want to do. If it’s not applied directly to your roots of the hair there is less chance of it getting into your blood stream too so depends what you are getting done as well 🤗

the NHS have guidelines on what you can and can’t eat but cooked ham in a toastie is fine as far as I’m aware 🤔 I wouldn’t put uncooked ham in as I don’t think a toastie would heat it enough.

I never got any stretch marks with my first or so far with this one I just used normal moisturiser that I always use which was also a cocoa butter one.

We told parents around 10 weeks and others (close friends and work) after 12 week scan. We are just telling others now as we see them. We still haven’t announced on social media to the wider world and are currently 24 weeks but last time we did this around 20 weeks we just don’t want to jinx anything. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy 🤗💜

Congratulations! You need to tell your hairdresser as not all hair dyes are safe they will know what to use instead. As for cured meat it needs to be cooked to very high temperature to kill the bacteria. I personally just avoided dyeing my hair and cured meat totally while pregnant just to be safe. I was very anxious for the whole pregnancy and had a lot of gray hair showing by the end 😂. As for telling people my colleagues knew straight away as I had to tell them I was going through IVF due to needing to take time off for appointments etc. We told close family after 12 week scan I made some little cards with a rainbow 🌈 on saying somethings are worth the wait then put a scan picture inside each. (I'd had losses before) My mum cried when she opened it. We didn't public announce until after 20 week scan as I was super anxious that it would jinx it and something would go wrong.
