Just looking for some advice. I’ll be 36 weeks on Sunday. I have placenta previa and have spent some time in hospital, the most recent being a couple of days ago with a heavy bleed.
I’ll be having a planned section at 39 weeks (unless they have to do it sooner).
When I was admitted to hospital a few days ago because of a heavy bleed I’d had some back ache and period type pains a few days before the bleed but when I had the actual bleed no pains or anything. I was kept in hospital for 24 hours and had no further bleeds so was discharged, this was on Wednesday night that I got discharged.
So yesterday I had quite strong back ache on and off most the day as well as period style cramps. Asked a friend who said this didn’t sound like the start of labour - just the body gearing up?! I also had brown discharge but the hospital did tell me this was really normal after the fresh bleed.
This morning when I woke up and wiped below using a baby wipe I had some red/pink blood again and a little mucus, so I’m thinking maybe mucus plug? I’ve also got back ache again and period type cramps.
Could this be early signs of labour? This is first baby so I really have no idea at all of what to expect.
I’ve put a fresh pad on and also been to the toilet a few times just to monitor, no further bleeding or mucus. Back ache continues but isn’t any worse. I will obviously call triage if I have any more or if pain becomes worse. I’m just wondering if anyone thinks this could possibly be the start?
Thanks 😘 xxx

Hi Amanda86. This could be Braxton Hicks practise type contractions starting, but as you have a placenta praevia, I would definitely get checked out, in case you have a haemorrhage. They may have you back in I'm afraid for bed rest, I don't know, but I would want you scanned to check that the placenta is stable. Hope all is OK and I shall be thinking of you. Diane
Thanks Diane. Yeah the hospital did actually mention I was having quite strong Braxton Hicks which I wasn’t feeling most of the time. So could well be this.
I’m continuing to go to the toilet regular and still not more spotting or blood. Back ache has now eased off too.
Scan as hospital showed my placenta is still completely covering birth canal and before being discharged the doctor did mention if I continue to bleed then likely they will admit me and possibly do the section sooner.
I will continue to keep a really close eye and if I have any type of spotting or bleeding I will call them straight away.
Hi Amanda86. Well, I feel more reassured, as you must, that the pains etc have settled down, so it does seem as if it has been Braxton-Hicks. Obviously, just keep an "eye on your knickers" and if any heavy bleeding, then off you go. All will be OK for baby to be born now, so no worries there. Hopefully you will be able to manage another couple of weeks. You know I am thinking of you, so wishing you massive luck. Diane xx
Thanks very much Diane. I definitely do feel baby will be here sooner than 39 weeks but hopefully he can stay snuggled up in my tummy just a little longer!
I did read that the contractions could cause some spotting/bleeding as it disrupts blood vessels so it could well be the case with having the cramps followed by a little blood.
Will keep an eye and call them straight away if I have any further bleeds or pains.
I can’t, won’t be long now. We’ve moved house and it’s being decorated so I just want it finished for him coming so hopefully he can wait a few more weeks 🙈
When is your kidney scan? Do you have a gender scan booked? Xxx
I chased them up on Friday they said they can take time it's a matter of waiting, if I don't get anything next week iv got antenatal and Dr on the 21St I'll be taking them I'm getting a private one
Hopefully you’ll hear from them by next week but if not definitely mention it to them. It’s not fair at a time that’s already an anxious time to have someone waiting around and causing more anxiousness 😖 xxx
Most definitely hun it really depressed the life out of me. As u know.
I know everyone keeps saying your pregnant they need to hurry up, it's not fair your right they have already worried the life out of me I want to know what I'm dealing with.
Yes it was awful, I remember it well and slowly towards the end I’ve been having a little again! 😢
Thanks - we’ve got someone in decorating but as it’s been the whole house getting done I’m just fed up with it now and want it done lol. Hopefully should be finished in the next weeks though 🤞🤞 xxx
When I went in for monitoring I was having BH but didn’t feel them. Hopefully all this is just you gearing up which can happen weeks ahead of the due date.
Lots of rest for you to keep the little guy tucked in there for a few more weeks x
