However I would look into get some psychological therapy to try and overcome the phobia as you never know when you are going to need a blood test quickly. Emla cream will take about 45minutes to work so there isn't always time for that
I was exactly the same! I got myself into such a state over it!! I was crying in the waiting room and freaking out! But honestly I didn’t even know it had been done! When you see the nurse tell them you are really scared and have a phobia! I did and she gave me numbing spray that worked instantly and used a baby needle so I didn’t feel anything!! I felt so proud of myself!! But I can’t lie I forgotten how easy it was and now worrying again about my 28 week bloods! Trust me if I can do it anyone can!!!!
P.s take a bottle of coke and some sweets in with you too! Made me feel like I wouldn’t pass out!! xx
I wouldnt say i have a phobia but i dont particularly like needles.. my advice is Dont look at the needle when its on the side and then close your eyes when its being done. 'If you cant see it you cant feel it' - thats my mentality and it works very well for me. Could be worth a try for you too
I used it at the start as I'm exactly the same! Whilst I am still scared of them, I don't need the cream now as I'm more used to them. Definitely make sure someone else is with you and they help calm you by talking to you and don't look - sounds simple but helps so much!
I hate needles too I always think they’re going to really hurt but i know it doesn’t and will be over in a minute. I have to psych myself up couple of deep breathes and look away once it’s in I can look it’s so weird.
