I am 27 weeks pregnant today, and for the past couple of weeks i have suffered with a bad back ache, and over the last couple of days it hurts to get up when i have been lying down and i feel like i can straighten my back for a couple of minutes. Also i have been getting achy legs in the middle of the night while sleeping. Can anyone help?

It sounds like sciatica. You don’t normally get it until the later stages of pregnancy but it can happen any time. It just depends on where the baby is laying

I get it really badly at the moment as I’m 32 weeks and apparently it doesn’t get any better

Lots of mobility and stretches does help though, as much as it hurts 😳

Good luck with it! :)

I have had a really bad back from pretty much 7/8 weeks! im now 16 weeks 2 days. It started only when i was in bed turning over it would hurt so much it would stop me in my tracks and its so difficult to explain what it feels like. As ive got further along its got worse for sure, it now happens when i walk i get a pain, if i sit or get up a certain way and almost defiantly every night when i get into bed and the same as you i cant lye down straight for a minuet or so when i first lay down it feels like its sort of frozen and is expanding out haha thats the only way i can really explain that feeling!

When i had my 12 week midwife appointment i felt like she didn't believe me and thought i was just a moany new mum she sort of laughed and said you wouldn't have anything this early and it got a bit serious i said i understand your going to ache and feel shitty when pregnant but this feeling inst normal so she booked me in for physio and i have my first appointment tomorrow i cant wait! So maybe speak to your midwife and see what they can offer you?x

Yes me too i had back ache quite early on and i just thought it was normal because i was carrying extra wait and i mentioned it to the midwife and she said it was normal and told me to just use a hot water bottle and get in a hot bath, but since its got wore its more when i have been lying down i struggle to get back up or even turn over. When i do managed to get up i then feel like its in the top of my legs and i can't stand up straight for a couple of minutes and feel like i have a limp for a couple of minutes. it some times travels to the top of my bum/lower back so painful. i am back at the hospital on the 28th Dec so i am going to mention it because i can only imagine it getting worse with me getting bigger. Thanks for your advise xx

Yeah defiantly mention it and say you don't feel like its right and you shouldn't be in as much pain as you are and they should look into it :) that's what im thinking by the time im bigger i wont be able to move lol!xx

I'm 25 weeks tomorrow. For the past week or so I've been suffering a lot with my back, hips and knees. To the point where I had to crawl from my living room, up the stairs and climbed into bed. I'm in agony every day but still working. I've seen a midwife and practitioner, both have said they can only refer me to physio and take the recommended dose of paracetamol, 2 every 4 hours. The practitioner has said I can have time off work but I work with great people who understand I need to sit down more (I'm a carer on an elderly ward at the hospital).

I got told to rest as much as possible but have the occasional walk round the room if that makes sense! It won't hurt to go to your doctors hun. Sorry I can't be of much help! X

If it is sciatica (normally a shooting type pain) then try cat stretches - you go on all fours and round your back up to stretch out the vertebrae. This was recommended by my pregnancy yoga teacher for anyone suffering with sciatica. Otherwise ask your Midwife to refer you to physio x
