im 14 weeks 3 days and feeling a it fed up. having been taken off all my meds by doctors as its unsafe for the baby inc pain relief and antidepressants.
went to see them a few weeks ago as was having really bad acid reflux causing morning sickness and and got given a tablet to reduce that. still having sickness most days though. struggling to sleep as getting pins and neadles and then swollen knees during the day making walking slow going. also get vertigo which i had before getting pregnant but been told its unsafe to take the meds i normally take to prevent this. getting out of breath more often than normal assuming due to babys position as docotor have tested and found nothing.
Ive tried phoning the iapt which my midwife said to contact for emotional support but every time i phone i get an answer phone message.
sorry in advance for the long post. is this normal? is anyone else in a similar position?
before we had our first scan the midwife had originally guessed we were 6 weeks further on than i actually am.
Im just fed up of feeling ill all the time and its having a negative impact on my mood.
everyone says pregancy is supposed to be exciting and i just want it over with so i can go back to taking my nerve pain meds. and then i fee guilty for not being more happy about being pregnant.

Oh god don’t feel guilty lovely, I hated both my pregnancies. Some people get no symptoms throughout, others get a few and some unfortunate others get lots. I, like you, was in the lots category! It felt like I was surviving rather than thriving most of the time. All I can say to you is keep in touch with the professionals. I can’t comment on your symptoms given your previous medical history as i’m not medically trained but nothing sounds majorly out of the the normal. Your midwife is there to help guide you through your 40 weeks (and a bit after) so use and abuse her! Or go straight to your GP if you’re really concerned. Also ask for help from your partner and any friends or family nearby so you can maximise rest and relaxation time. The first trimester is a toughy but hopefully in a few weeks when your well into your second you’ll be feeling much better again. All the best x
Don't feel guilty hun. You're having a rough time! Although my pregnancy wasn't too bad, I do know about anti depressants. I was taking sertraline before I got pregnant. When I found out we were expecting, I stopped taking them in a blind panic thinking they'd harm our baby. After talking to the doctor and the mental health midwife at the hospital, sertraline is actually the best one to be on whilst pregnant and if you choose to breast feed, it doesn't go into the breast milk.
Maybe it's worth asking your GP if there's another medication they can switch you to. It may not help your pain but it'll help your mood hun xx
Arrrrrr I feel for you. I had a terrible pregnancy due to having to reduce a lot of my medication. Can I ask what meds you were taking? You should have been weaned off the meds and referred to an obstetrician to do this safely. Xx
hey Alibob, was originially taking amitryptyln, garbapentine, neproxine, flureoxetine, proclazapine , buscopan and lomeprazole. doctor stopped everything when i went in to confirm pregnancy and has only put me back on omeprazole ( for nausea/ acid reflux) and cocodamol for pain because i went to them in tears asking if i could go back on my nerve/ antidepressant meds. been told im not allowed back on other stuff as not safe. and not been referred to anyone they just told me i had to stop taking them .
Thanks major and bexicles nice to know its normal. will try and make another doctors appointment but its a min two week waiting list at our surgery. just trying to feel more positive despite illness.
If you feel very panicked, down or anxious then you need an urgent on the day appointment with your GP. Don't let the receptionist put you off just firmly ask for one or get someone to phone in the morning and do it for you - if necessary mention you are pregnant and considered high risk to them.
With midwives try phoning them first thing in the morning or around lunchtime then slightly after lunchtime. On average I have to phone mine 10 times to get through.
I'd definitely recommend getting an emergency GP appointment tomorrow, please don't suffer in silence. As people have already said, there are some medications that are low risk in pregnancy. Sertraline antidepressant and prochlorprazine antisickness, which can also really help with vertigo. I know its not that strong but paracetemol and aspirin are both ok during pregnancy, and rennie and gaviscon both good for reflux. I had a similar experience to you during my first trimester, I had about 5 urgent appointments with the GP and some days off sick from work and found it a real struggle. It does definitely get better though and there is medication that you can take which will help, it might be a bit of trial and error.
