Back ache

For the last few weeks I have experienced terrible back pain ( across my shoulder and lower back). I have been to physio and she has given some exercises but they aren't really helping . I can't seem to do anything without my back bothering it starts from the moment I wake up until I go to bed. I have been having been having codeine however I am not wanting to take too much because of the side effects I.e. constipation which I suffer from anyway. Walking helps a little with my shoulders but bothers my lower back! I was just wondering if there is anything else I could do to relieve/ ease my back pain. It is starting to impact my sleep which I haven't been sleeping well anyway.

I’d recommend yoga and Pilates. Works wonders for back pain and helps with posture too. First thing in the morning and last thing at night really helps. You could also try things like swimming or cycling. Any exercise is really good for back pain. Once the back strengthens the pain becomes less x

Did your dr recommend codeine? As it’s not recommended in pregnancy - I had a bit of back pain/sciatica and was told paracetamol is all the pain relief you’re allowed in pregnancy! But I got a belly bandit upsie belly support, upped the yoga and made sure not to stay still for too long as The more I moved the better it got. Try sitting on a birth/exercise ball instead of the sofa as well that really helps lower back pain

Yes my consultant obstetrician has prescribed the codeine. Because I have shoulder pain and lower back pain combined with constipation moving about or sitting on my exercise ball helps one but bothers the other!

Not sure how many weeks you are- but have you tried being measured for a new bra? And switching to a non-wired one? I’ve been getting a lot of upper back pain and have bought a pregnancy pillow and am doing a lot of shoulder exercises in the gym with my trainer (as well as core stuff). I concentrate on pulling my shoulders back and that also helps. I also have a roller. I feel for you xx

I am nearly 32 weeks. I have been wearing a non wired bra for a few weeks and this week i was measured for a new bra this week. I have a pregnancy pillow from mothercare which I couldn’t get comfortable with. I have been given exercises by my physio but they don’t really help.
