Pregnancy after a miscarriage.

Hey! Sadly I had a miscarriage 5 weeks ago I was 5 and half weeks pregnant! It was such a shock as myself and my partner was very excited to be pregnant, since, my partner and I had unprotected intercourse 2 weeks ago so 3 weeks since my miscarriage is it possible that I can be pregnant because I feel the same way I did when I found out I was pregnant, when would I be able to test also if I am would I count this pregnancy on 2 weeks along from when I had intercourse or 5 weeks from when I had my intercourse as I haven't had a period since?

Any answers would be much appreciated :) xxxxx

This article has some information on getting pregnant after a miscarriage, we say that it's a good idea to wait at least one normal period before getting pregnant: nct.org.uk/pregnancy/miscar... pregnant again.

hi there, sorry to hear about your recent miscarriage. with regards to how pregnant you may or may not be, it is my understanding that under normal circumstances they calculate how far along you are based on first day of your last period, with the idea being that you would have conceived roughly a fortnight from this date - e.g. if first day of last period was 19th November, then today I would be classed as 5 weeks pregnant, even though I would probably have actually conceived about 3 weeks ago around ovulation. So even though the average pregnancy is 40 weeks long, this actually entails around 38 weeks of literal pregnancy, if that makes sense. They don't use intercourse dates, partly because we don't fall pregnant on the day we have sex .... depends if an egg has only just been released, about to be released, was released a few days ago ... etc, then it has to implant etc etc. So, in your case, I would imagine they will use your last period and the dates of your miscarriage to come up with some kind of rough estimate but they will need to wait for the dating scan to be sure .... they will book this in at the guessed 12 week mark and you may come out of the scan finding out that you are only 10 weeks pregnant ... or maybe 15! If you had sex 2 weeks ago, it is possible that it will show up on a pregnancy test now, but my be better to leave it another 5 days or a week before testing. Hope this helps rather than confuses xxx

Hey! Thank you yeah that makes loads of sense! I'm going to test this weekend and if it's negative wait a couple of days and see! Because I haven't had my period yet since the miscarriage Aswell which normally it's between 4-6 weeks and next week will be six weeks since... I really feel like I am I can just feel it if that makes any sense at all! Yet Im not going to get any hopes up! I just hope that everything's going to be safe! i understand that i should have waited till I had my first period it was all just in the moment!

Thank you for the reply xxx

yeah they say better to wait until you've had a period again, but life doesn't always work out like that! fingers crossed for you. if it hasn't happened this time then I am sure it won't be long. with my pregnancy i wasn't even late yet and wasn't trying for a baby, but the thought 'i know i am pregnant' just entered my mind and i was right ... our instincts can be amazing. i hope you get a good christmas present on the wee stick! xxx
