I had the whooping cough injection on Friday and have hardly been able to move my arm since and it is red, hot and bruised, is this normal?

Hi cheeky1976,

I had it a few weeks back, and no, I didn't have that reaction. It was sore for the rest of the day and some of the next, but didn't look bruised or feel hot. I would have it checked out xx

This does sound very unusual. I know someone who has taken the whooping cough injection recently but she just had a very stiff arm for a couple of hours.

It sounds as if the injection could have maybe touched / pricked your muscle.

It worth checking out. Could you get an appointment at your G.P today?

xx

I had the injection and my arm was really sore and painful to move or two days, I couldn't lay on it! But totally fine now. It is one of the side effects mentioned :) nothing to worry about.

Hi, I had mine on friday, its not hot or swollen, but does have a bruise around where it went in and is very sore, cant move it fully and is pretty painful!

It is easing off now though, if you are worried just get it checked out, or maybe give your midwife a call?

Anything hot and swollen is not good, body has reacted, I would def make a phone call to GP at very least to discuss. Hope it eases up soon X

I had my whooping cough jab a week ago on the friday and my arm is still a little swollen. It was really swollen, hot and painful for a number of days. I phoned NHS direct and they were really helpful. They were quite sure it was a reaction to the tetanus in it. It would definitely be worth giving them a call to check everything's ok for you too x

Thank you everyone it finally settled down. If it did this to me it's a worry what my baby will go through when it has its immunisation after its born!
