My fourth attempt at this watercolour. Shadows are proving my nemesis. But fun was had nevertheless painting this 10" by 8" picture.

I like this one best.
That makes me feel happy.😊
The two I have seen have differing merit. I suppose practice does make perfect and maybe that's why Monet appeared to be obsessed with waterlilies! I suppose all artists struggle with personal dissatisfaction. You say it was fun to paint the scene four times, and that's the whole point of art. It should be fun and satisfying and I guess you always like some paintings more than others. When I look at any of your pieces of art, I'm not looking for shadows, perfect or imperfect. I am looking at your unique style and ability to say so much with your colour palettes, so I hope you won't get too hung up on producing the 'perfect' shadow! 🙏
Thank you for your kind comment, Callendersgal. I am trying to be loose in my painting, and what I call 'semi-abstract' -- for the moment at least. I find bits of this painting vibrant and joyous, but am not happy with the shadows on the path. Perhaps it would have been better if I had left the pathway as a plain strip of grey tarmac.
What I do know is that my colours are becoming sufficiently vibrant for me to be able to try some paintings of Trinidad!
Oh YES BrentW. I'll so look forward to those!
