I always love Easter Day,it was and is a day filled with promise and hope.

As a child, and indeed as an adult, it was always a day for going to church to give thanks, and then to rush back home for a roast lunch of Welsh Lamb and usually an aunt would join us and a few other villagers as well.

We would have an abundance of Easter Eggs, and with my greed i would end up feeling totally sick.

My friend Mike who lives in London never fails to send me a Palm Cross for Palm Sunday,,and that means so much to me,he plays the organ in his local church, and he used to live quite near me in Failand, where again he was the organist for his local church, and our friendship has survived for many moons.

The sun is shining and already folk are gathering in the Bay where i live, for i guess a picnic on the beach, and no doubt this is how its always been for well over 100 years, these simple days of enjoyment are what life should be about, and i suppose the difference now is that people leave their litter strewn everywhere, good manners are so hard to track down now.

Wishing you all a happy and blissful Easter Day.x

Roddy.

Hi Roddy. It's wonderful to reminisce and I have happy childhood memories of Easter too. Thank you for sharing. It's wonderful that you live near a beach and I hope you are able to get out and enjoy it too, crowds permitting!

I agree with you wholeheartedly about litter - shameful!

Happy Easter

🐣

Thank you so much Roddy for your Easter wishes and the reminder of the lovely day that Easter Sunday can be. As a child the only thing that got us through Good Friday was hot cross buns slathered with butter, as it was a housebound day and the radio played only solemn music. But Easter Sunday was awaited with almost as much glee as Christmas day, and like you, I was usually inundated with Easter eggs and the biggest question was, 'are there chocolates within or is this a hollow egg?' Our Methodist church was decorated with the most heavenly spring flowers and like you we'd go home from Sunday school to a big Sunday lunch accompanied by Family Favourites on the radio in which families sent in requests for music to be played for soldier relatives overseas, and vice versa. No one cared how much chocolate we managed to eat and we could get to feel as sick as we wished. Lovely memories and thanks for sharing yours with us!

Hi Sue, your response reminded me that I always wanted eggs with chocolates within. I always felt it was just a waste of chocolate space if there was nothing inside! 😊

Happy Easter to you too secrets. Roast lamb is what we're having today studded with garlic and rosemary 😋, I love it. Your post has reminded me of when I was a child (on a Good Friday), my sister and I used to queue in the morning outside the local baker's shop for hot cross buns - they used to be big and warm when we were handed the bags and so delicious and fresh - nothing like those of today from the likes of Tesco etc.

Oh i love lamb with all the trimmings, and like you i once lived near a little private bakers and their cakes and buns were marvellous, but as you say,non of its like it used to be,and why hot cross buns, with all sorts of flavours, are now available all year round i cant understand,it spoils everything.xx

Yes I agree and they are stored in film bags which make them sweat and go hard - my hubby bought some from Tesco on Friday and I'm pretty sure a tennis ball has more give in it than those hot cross buns! 😂 YUK xx
