Phone scamming is rife at the moment and I'd just say don't engage with anyone who isn't your known friend or a business or service you'd expect to be hearing from. And even then be extremely wary. Terminate the call and be aware that banks and financial services have long since stopped communicating cold in this way. If someone genuinely wants or needs contact with you, they will persist. For the last few years I've used a call filtering system on my home phone and it's cut my home phone scam calls to nil, because bots and impatient scammers can't or won't go through the process to be connected.

We have the BT Advanced Call Blocker phones which do the same thing, it saves up to 1,000 numbers and a lot of hassle.
