Hi bit of a random question but has anyone got any knowledge or experience of Asyra Pro allergy testing for food intolerances?

I’ve booked an appointment to have one next week so any points of view, good or bad would be welcomed.

Ali 🙂

Hi Ali

A very good question and one I can comment on.

I've received a few updates from the IBS Network this week to which I'm a member and they had a bit on intolerance tests. Basically they said dont bother.

I'm going to try and find the email and get it to you. I'm going out in a minute so will look when I get back.

Hope you're ok.

Thank you. I've just seen your email. Seems like it's going to be a waste of time. Although someone I know says it's good so idk.

I'm kind of intrigued so now I've made the appt I think I'll turn up and then report back here with the findings xx

You are welcome Ali. If I'd made the appointment I think I'd also be intrigued.

I saw a Nutritionist last year in July and she said I had a high sensitivity to wheat, barley, rye, formalin and a medium sensitivity to peas. I did have a high sensitivity to other foods but cannot remember which ones now as I left the sheet of paper at the doctors when I had an appointment last year. I looked up formalin as I'd never heard of it before and was shocked to find out what it was (thank goodness I make all my own food and am Vegan), here's a description below:

What is the use of formalin in food?

Formalin in Food. The widespread use of formalin, in preservation of fish, fruit and other food items is posing a threat to public health. The chemical used as a solution in water keeps fish fresh and makes fruits like mangoes attractive. This chemical, usually used to stop dead bodies from rotting, is now being used to preserve edible items.

I mentioned that I'd seen a Nutritionist to both the doctor and the Dietician and neither of them thought it was a good idea as the way in which they test you for foods isn't proven. The Nutritionist I saw used some kind of magnetic force, you held a magnetic bar and she used small magnetic pens and put them in a machine and it gave a reading, from looking on the internet the machine she used is calked: mora rm10s.

I'd be interested to hear though how you get on.

Alicia :) xx

Meant to say, although a lot of effort the Low Fodmap diet has been amazing for me. It works for about 75% of people with IBS. xx

Sorry, I haven’t got any experience of the test you mention, but you got me curious so I looked it up and found this on the Nhs website.

Is there a food intolerance test?

A number of companies produce food intolerance tests, but these tests are not based on scientific evidence and are not recommended by the British Dietary Association (BDA).

The best way of diagnosing a food intolerance is to monitor your symptoms and the foods you eat. See what happens when you cut out the suspected food for a while, and then reintroduce it into your diet.

Sorry if this is bad news for you. They recommend a food diary.

Oh. I have an appointment on Wednesday. I should have looked it up beforehand. Although I do go down the holistic route so that appealed to me the woman was rather snippy as well so that's put me off a bit.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason. Unless the problem is something odd like spices or chilli. Thank you for you help x

From my own experience... I have 17 different things I cannot eat, Gluten, Soya, British Dairy (fed on huge amounts of Soya, hence what I call the 'Marie de Medici principle!) Beef, lamb etc...

I think it's hugely affected, promoted or worsened by a deficient gut biome.

It's an ever reducing circle which gets most vicious. The less variety of things that we are able to eat, the more impoverished our gut biome becomes and the less equipped to be able to actually digest the food in the first place.

I don't believe these tests do much to answer any questions and I personally consider them suspect.

For my part I religiously avoid the three major aggressord which are dairy, soya and gluten and and I have also in the past and indeed I should again start, making my own water based probiotic kefir because I find essentially this is the only thing that has helped me.

This last week I actually managed to eat baby green beans without having any adverse effect because I am also unable to eat any legumes whatsoever and even little green beans in the past have been the culprit of making me very ill...

So this is somewhat progress.

Although total avoidance which for me in the form of gluten, dairy, soya and even grass fed meat is an absolute must, other things that I avoid because they also cause me a problem, I am hoping that eventually I shall be able to eat again. Eating green beans without adverse effect is giving me the hope that maybe one day I shalm be able to eat chickpeas and lentils again which I like, and even fresh little baby petit pois which I haven't been able to eat now for the past 3 or 4 years!

I feel from my own experience as I say and observation, that really if we don't have the correct micro organisms in our gut biome to help us eat our food when eating and ever reducing circle of things will inevitably reduce the variety of bacteria that we have available within us, so as difficult as it is, being on such a restrictive diet one has to try and find new things that one can eat that will help grow our variety of personal bacteria and I feel that probiotic kefir is a huge step in that direction and it's the only thing that so far has done anything for me and I would highly recommend.

Wow thank you for that. I think it's possibly gluten but if its legumes which now you've mentioned it, it might well be that's a problem as I'm plant based and will never go back to eating dairy, fish or meat. I suppose if that is the case it's better to concentrate on what you can have rather than what you cant. Thank you for your help Poppy the 🐈

Ok. I understand entirely.

Start brewing your own organic kefir, coconut water based; excellent prebiotic... And follow it up with eating raw chicory leaves - an excellent source of PRObiotic (which is the "manure" that feeds the wee PREbiotic beasties we rely upon). Chicory is one of the highest sources of Inulin.

This will help you a great deal.

I think you will find that most British Dairy is not fed vast amounts of soya. It is too expensive. In UK, where we are great at growing grass, cows are mainly grass fed, silage in winter and maybe a small amount of grain in winter. US feedlots feed large amounts of soya.

Unless it’s free, find something that will be of use to spend your money on. That would be my advice. Don’t be swayed by the glossy lingo they use into getting you to pay for a test that will be of know real benefit. 👍🌈

I think I'm going to keep the appointment anyway and have the test and see what comes of it. x

I have quite a few food allergies and I asked my doctor about that test, she told me not to waste my money as it’s not reliable. Let us know how you get on, it would still be interesting if if did pick up the foods you cannot eat. Best wishes x

Thank you for your reply. Yes I'm thinking I might go along anyway but not make following appts as you get the results on the first one and that's all I want to know. What will be interesting is that I'm vegan so already dont eat meat dairy etc but I will try not to tell her that so if she says it's one of those then that's not good. I use natural remedies due to adverse reaction to drugs dr gave me in the past so it suits me to go down the alternative route but not if the lady is just winging it lol.

I know someone who wanted to have a similar Bio rhythm testing done a couple of years ago. She backed out, because the employee's running the testing facility tried to get her to spend more money on more extensive testing. The $100 dollar sale price, would be $300 with more extensive testing. My Dr. who did /does my cancer marker, yearly testing, and yearly scans allowed me to have extensive panel mineral, nutrient, and supplement level testing several years ago. I thought I was healthy, and ingesting the right food's, supplements, and minerals in my diet. When the blood test results came back, I had many low, high, and borderline flags that were not at a good level. After 6 months of supplementation my levels were now in the perfect range's. What I also found that worked for me was a blood panel test my Allergist gave me many years before the aforementioned test, which showed my severe, moderate, and low allergen's, and my body's intolerance's. I have to carry an Epi- pen in case I come in contact with a severe allergen, that could cause Anaphylactic Shock. I also live by a book called " Blood Type/Body Type diet" by Joseph Christiano. When I removed the foods, beverages, supplements, and herb's that were not good for my bodies blood type/biology, and added the beneficial foods, supplements, and herb's, I then felt like I hit the health & wellness lottery. I no longer had horrible acid reflex, gas or stomach pains, sleep problems, or weight gain. I actually lost too much weight. I now had to work out less, and I had to eat more good fat's to keep my weight up. I no longer have to take allergy shots, allergy pills, or use a nasal inhaler, or asthma inhaler for the last 4 years with 2 exceptions, if I get a bad cold,/flu or if I am exposed to a severe allergen. I do take natural antihistamines, and anti-inflammatory's that help to keep my bodies health at it's best. In summary the free blood test' by my Allergist, and my Oncology Dr.'s , and the $13 Blood type diet book I mentioned has given me the healthiest, and yesssss best life I couldn't have imagined, especially during this Corona virus pandemic. I thank , and praise GOD! for everything that I , and my loved ones have been given. I hope this information will help you, and anyone else who wants to live their healthiest best life.
