A Clarach Bay Sunset

Inspired by a photograph by Nick Jenkins. I loved this place when I was studying at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, in the 1970s. It was a hefty feeling walk over Constitution Hill -- and a hefty one back-- to a naturally sloth-like person as myself. But I loved going there to see the tortured rocks (I am a geologist by training) and the bouncing breakers.

As regards this painting, I am very pleased with the waves, which just involved dropping fresh water into a wash of Indian Red and then adding a little Payne's grey. The other colours used were indigo and lamp black. About as simple as I have ever been.

That would be one I'd choose to hang on my wall. I really love it. X

Thank you, RR44. I really am beginning to wonder if I dare one day put a painting or two on Etsy. It seems such a huge step to take. Would I wind up like Van Gogh, selling just the one painting (probably to my wife)?

You won't ever know unless you take that step Brent.

Hi Brent, lovely painting. Great handling of the waves - may try that approach myself. Just down the road from me as I live in the mountains above Aberystwyth. X

You have excellent perspective in this painting. I think you should give Etsy a go. A friend of mine sells her hand made furniture on there and does pretty well.

Hi Brent_Wilson, Congratulations on your 'Artist' badge which is so richly deserved. This is another stunningly beautiful painting with a wistful sort of vibe. (Maybe that's you, remembering past times!). But lovely anyway! 😊

It is a wonderful inlet, isn't it, Tinker? Let's keep it as secret as we can.
