I am an older man who struggles at times with anxiety. I have two dogs that I love!! Gus and pumpkin. I am married, but my wife struggles understanding my issue. I have three wonderful adult children and one grand daughter. I am thinking of retiring this upcoming summer. I have been in education for 32 years! I am actually a lucky person. I am lucky to have found this group of people!

Hi Lowlow64 ,
What do you teach? My mom is a Sunday School teacher who is doing online classes for her students until COVID is under control and others get their vaccines very soon.
We are glad you have joined the group, as well.πππ
That's a nice comment. I worked as a teacher but had to give it up after a brain injury. I would be happy to discuss stuff with you, but I have to go to bed now as I live in the UK and it's late!
Take care. ππΈ
I like you now have anxiety. Before I go out I need to know where I'm going, hate to deviate. I have enjoyed lockdown as I don't need to meet people, or socialize. So a very quiet life for me. I have a stray cat who visits me for her food, still cannot stroke her but never mind.
My husband is disabled and he does his very best to understand but it's difficult.
Sending you supportive thoughts
What a nice thing to say, and it's great to have you on here too! I know that you will get lots of support, kindness and friendship from the lovely group on here. Is that Gus or Pumpkin as your avatar? Whoever it is, they're very cute! π
Thank you, all. Yes, that is Gus and Pumpkin. Gus is the black dog and Pumpkin the brownish dog.
I don't brush your anxiety away but anxiety from time to time can be the caring side of your nature. You teach , you have a family and these 2 majors especially during these times can bring a lot of things to the forefront of our minds . During this long winter I have spent more time on this site and more time listening to the younger people who I work with . I work as a Nursery Nurse ,floating and out of work as I do a lot of paperwork at home . This was perceived by some as an easier option but I have tight deadlines and broken communication . I am very lucky . I have 5 very bright sons who are all working in fantastic jobs , grandchildren , a good husband but this doesn't mean I don't have periods of isolation , reflection and feeling anxious for no apparent reason apart from a release of hormones , tension and sheer frustration . I am 60 so retirement is ahead for me . I now work reduced hours but feel busier than ever. Our age is portrayed as great - the golden years but it can bring the feeling for me - of uncertainty and health wise how I can support and maybe be supported.
Don't beat yourself up about being anxious . For me it can be motivating or at least make me think about making future plans.
A warm welcome from me too. I was a teacher for 35 years until I developed Rheumatoid Arthritis and sadly had to retire early.Thank you for your kind comments. It is a lovely bunch of people on here and you will find lots of support, fun, music , photos, art, videos, wildlife, I could go on and on........
It may seem a bit bonkers at times when some of us get going with our seemingly odd sense of humour!
Looking forward to hearing more from you - please post some pics of Gus and Pumpkin if you don't mind. A lot of us have pets. I've got a naughty rabbit called Dylan. Hence the MadBunnyππ°
Hi Lowlow64, no need to thank us. We are delighted to have you here. Sorry to hear that you suffer from anxiety. It often can affect someone life-long. It is often misunderstood even by our nearest and dearest and I know needs to be managed, which is challenging. I feel for you. But it sounds as if you have some wonderful compensations in your family. And your dogs sound delightful. If you can, we'd love to see a picture of them! Retirement is a big step and I expect that might increase your level of anxiety but if you've thought it through and are ready, then very best wishes to you and I'm sure you'll make a success of your post-work life!
Meantime, please do continue to feel very welcome here and know that we are here for you!
Hi and welcome
Oh yes you are lucky to have this group. That exactly how I felt when I came here. I found love and support. People here are amazing. I did not know there were a group of people who supported one another in depression, I was happy bcz generally people who don't suffer from depressions don't understand it. One usually feel lonely among hundred, even when they try to help, they can't fully appreciate it. It also helps that you wil not burden them with something they don't understand. lWelcome again
Hi Lowlow64 , welcome aboard the ship. Clive.π
I believe the disorder. I have spoken to my Dr. He has since put me on some meds. I have also tried some informal therapies that I have found from supportive videos on the internet.
