Yes you are! I wish our political leaders were more like her.
But you can get rid of your leaders, choose another, we are stuck with the line of succession and its Charles and Camilla next, whether we like it or not.

We do have her and thank goodness we do! I'm not what you'd call a royalist myself but I think that we could do a lot worse as far as head of the country xx
That's not the point. In a democratic society the head of our country should be elected and not someone with inherited privilege. That's more like a feudal society!

No not a roundhead just someone who disagrees with the class system which is still well and thriving in a modern society. There should be no room for this type of division now. I'm not discussing on an individual level whether or not the Queen is a wonderful woman - that is irrelevant to my mind.
Us too hypercat. Don't see why we should bow and scrape to people just because of their family connections. But we did watch the alternative Christmas speech on Channel 4, very clever and amusing.

Ah I'm not talking individuals here but the institution itself. We are discussing this on different levels. There should be no room in a democratic society for inherited privilege as this just perpetuates the outdated class system. That's my point.
We in the UK should be citizens and not subjects like most other forward thinking countries.

Well I am a Royalist through and through. We have a Queen to be proud of. If our ‘elected’ politicians were half as caring and conscientious we wouldn’t need to worry!

Yes having someone to rally around in difficult times is important! It was somewhat like that for us and Roosevelt at the time. Even tho some people disagreed with him he represented the war effort and the will to win.

Hi Mydexter. That is the argument always used. But Trump was elected. And after 4 years he has lost the next election, he is going, kicking and screaming. And his awful family will not automatically succeed him. Nor is the USA expected to bow to his 'sisters and his cousins and his aunts' forever.Leaving aside personalities it is the concept that one, extremely wealthy, family , gets to occupy such an elevated position while the royalists stand and cheer.
Sorry, I feel very strongly about this. I have successfully avoided meeting the queen, and charles, when they visited my work. Unlike some I don't wish them ill, I think the queen has done her duty as someone of her generation would expect to do. But when she dies I think it is time for the country to grow up and move to a democratic system.

Yes, it is nice to have someone independent to gave in such a position. Not sure Charles will be quite so agreeable but it's a great institution to have. Not sure anyone bows and scrapes these days, hopefully they are just respectful.
The Queen is not a political figure. 🤴 The UK equivalent figure to the USA President, is our Prime Minister.

I have nothing against the Royal family but I think royalty has little to offer apart from being a tourist attraction.They cost the tax payer a fortune.

My point is history reveals that the "Kings & Queens" have been bestowed a "position' of "royalty" which has turned many into autocrats, like Truimp, wants to be but, thank god is in the wrong country.
