Snows magic moment

I was watching a TV show called "Snow cats and me" last night.. It was about a group rehabilitating Lynx wild cats who were rescued from a fur farm and taught how to survive in the wild with the aim of eventually releasing them in Siberia... My cat Snow was asleep on the couch next to me.... On the show two of the lynx had kittens, and the sound of these kittens woke my cat, he was so tuned in to the noise he jumped up and went right up to the TV and watched the rest of the show with total intreague... What's more remarkable is both my cats were rescued and because of where I live they are indoor cats... They have never been outside so they don't miss it... As much as I wish they could run wild people steal cats where I live to sell, or far worse... Because snow has never been out he's never met another animal other than Skye his cat friend.. So has no experience of what noises they might make let alone what noise a big cat in the TV should make... Yet buried somewhere in his brain deep in his DNA he recognises this distant relative as a cat, even if it is 10 times his size and lives in the wild in Russia.... The wonderful coincidence that they are called "snow cats"and he is called Snow made me smile. He's 4 years old and this is only the second time it's happened the first was with pumas 2 years ago.

I hope you all have a magic moment today. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ€

What a gorgeous cat Snow is. Their instinct doesn't seem to leave them and they are intelligent aren't they. Our boy Dave does go out but fortunately for me we live in a rural area and have never had a problem.

He really is a gorgeous cat.😺🌈😊

Yes he is a wonderful fluffy ball... Animal instinct is a fascinating thing. I think we can learn a lot from animals. The down side to a long haired white cat when I only wear black has obvious down sides though πŸ˜‚πŸ€πŸ•ŠοΈ

He really is a gorgeous cat. We sure can learn a lot from them, they are intelligent. Hmm, white fur, black clothing, not a good mix for sure😹😊😹

Also white cats are fair skinned and their ears can get sunburnt in the hot weather if you don't put sun cream on them.

Baby is a ginger tabby and gets her ears creamed as she is fair skinned!

Sorry for late reply... Tough couple of days... Yes snow is so very fair.. You can see he is almost albino... His ears are very pink and would burn without protection in no time. Does baby mind having her ears creamed?

Baby has had her ears creamed since she was a kitten so doesn't know any different.

Hi, I was so pleased when I read your post about the lynx as I have been watching them since they were rescued. I loved watching how they progressed and seeing the mother cat enjoy being a mother to those two kittens. Lovely, heartwarming story. They will be released next Spring in that wonderful safe place in Siberia. I hope they will let us see that happen too.I was also interested to read about your cat Snow going up to the TV when hearing the cat noises. You are probably right in thinking there is something in their DNA that provokes some sort of memory. Its so nice being able to share interests like this.

Cheers. Chrys

So sorry for such a late reply.. I found the TV show so moving. It was a wonderful project to see if they could give these poor cats a life. Their journey was fascinating. Especialy how the domesticated cats were so much like my much smaller relatives, but with time they found their animal nature... Watching the female cat rescued from the fur farm have a family of her own was so touching. She must have had her kittens taken from her so many times yet still showed wonderful maternal skills... I can only imagine how much that must have meant to her... I was nearly in tears by this point. Such beautiful animals, and though this was a small project anything that can be done to treat animals with the reverence they deserve has to be commended. The fact my cats were so captivated by them on the TV provided a link for me, these beautiful wild animals and my very precious animals that know nothing of lynx yet still saw them as fellow cats... Nature is fascinating and majestic, and cats as any "owner" knows are never really domestic or property of anyone, they are individual entities and a law in to themselves... We never really own them we are just castondians for the time we have them.

Yes, I agree, nature is captivating. You obviously have a great love of cats Boyshape. I also care deeply about the whole animal world and worry about the difficulties they continue to face. I so enjoy watching animal programmes like the ones David Attenborough produces. He has done such a lot of good work over the years making us humans aware of the problems animals face around the world; be this through the actions of poachers, loss of habitat in the Amazon or through climate change for example. Hope you are enjoying more good days than bad.

Cheers, Chrys

Hi snow is so lovely pixie watched cats and tigers on TV even football lol pixie never went out when a kitty but he was running riot in my mam's house as he lived there at first as I had a elderly cat but she insisted on buying me a kitten as I was ill and to cheer me up and take home when Cristal died but his Bengal genes are wilder than a domestic cat πŸ†

I'm glad pixie watches cats too... My boys show no interest in TV usualy... Not even animal tv....so for them to react to these wild cats was very rare. It was the sound the Cubs made that drew their attention... Pixie has bengal genes? They are wonderful cats but certainly a little more wild in nature. 🀍

Yes he is bit of a nipper he tells me when he's had enough stroking with a nip he usually licks after it's just his temper but I wouldn't want someone waking me up to stroke or move he's stubborn too he wants to go but sometimes if I tell him he'll give me look and refuse then he will walk away then go back to be let out what a weirdo hope you have a nice day with your lovely cat family 🌞
