A baking day

β€’42 Replies

Hi all

We had a lot of showers this morning but it was lovely and sunny this afternoon, so tempting to go out for a lovely walk but I thought it only fair I stay in with hubby as we have conservatory fitters here this week.

I made hubby some chocolate chip cookies, shortbread (both of these recipes out of a very old recipe book - Australian Women's Weekly cookbooks) and custard and white chocolate biscuits (recipe below):

bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/cus...

Let's just say hubby and the conservatory fitters were more than happy to taste test.πŸ˜‰

I also made some quinoa bread and it does taste delicious but unfortunately it's falling apart so I'm unable to cut slices, such a shame as it really does taste good (you can see from the photo below on how cracked it is). The recipe said to make flour out of the quinoa using a high speed blender or food processor, I don't have a high speed blender so used the food processor but unfortunately it didn't grind down the quinoa into flour. Here's the recipe if you like to try it:

Have a lovely evening all.

Alicia 😊🌈🍞πŸͺ

I don't know were YOU are crazyfitness.... but it was Raining, this morning, Raining this afternoon and it's Raining this evening.... in short a Wet Day. NOT that I am Complaining, I Promised NOT too, during all that Hot weather.

Presides which if we ALL want to Drink, Eat, Wash Cloathes- and have a Shower.... we NEED the Rain. I don't have a Garden now, other than our 'Communial' one that is.

Perhaps we are 'All A Bunch Of Wets'.....

It was raining here this morning but cleared up this afternoon. Tomorrow is looking good so I'll be out on my bike. The hot weather seems like a distant memory now.

Oh we do need the rain, overnight would be good though.πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

Our eldest son has always loved and still does like listening to a thunderstorm or even just the rain when he is tucked up in bed! Always liked watching them from his bedroom as well! I think all children like jumping in puddles, brings back lots off happy memories of their childhood and of my own too.xxxxπŸ’œβ€οΈ

I'm the same, I love thunderstorms. Oh yes, muddy puddles and now I sound like Peppa Pig πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Looks like a perfect bread pudding ingredient to me, add a few sultanas or chopped fruit and the usual egg mix. Desert 😊

Well you've said it Ellie, it certainly tastes good.

Hi Jerry

It seems the taste testing went very well.πŸ˜‰

Ah, I bet you did and I bet your book is really good as well.

You're welcome, the bread tastes delicious and I know it wouldn't have been so crumbly had the quinoa turned to flour.

Hope your evening is going well.πŸ‘πŸ˜ŠπŸŒˆ

You excelled yourself I think. 😜 All looks delicious Alicia. You are lucky you can cycle it all off. Like our friend in Scotland who walks 6-8 miles round Loch Lomond or similar every day (but she is a tough Scot with good health!) We should have been there but regs won't allow.

So today I will try making bread with rice flour for a son who doesn't eat wheat. Will lunch with him tomorrow as he's just moved to Highgate. Hoping it turns out OK!!

β€’ in reply todiana1998

Thank you Diana. Fortunately I don't eat them as I can't have gluten as I've got IBS but I'm a Vegan as well, I changed my diet to improve my health. Well that's an excellent walk every day and Scots are definitely tough, I'm a southern softieπŸ˜‚. Such a shame you couldn't get there but we'll soon be able to go where we want as we are moving forward with a vaccine.

I'm sure your bread with rice flour will turn out lovely and he will appreciate you making it.

Have a good day.

Ooh they look lovely. I must give the custard and white choc ones a try. I don't make biscuits very often as we just can't stop eating them once we start. Unlike shop bought ones which, unless they're choc coated tend to stay in the tin much longer😊

β€’ in reply toMadBunny

The custard and white chocolate ones are very easy to make and hubby loves them. Nice as a treat and you know what ingredients are in them.πŸ˜‹πŸŒˆπŸ˜Š

True.

Now that's what I call making good use of your time Alicia! πŸ€£πŸ‘

β€’ in reply to

Well hubby would definitely agree with you SueπŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

Good morning your baking looks lovely I'll show mam she does the baking I just do the washing up ☹️lol I used to love it baking that is but I don't bother now since I been living at mam's. I used to like the old recipies in the bero cookbook, but now we are strict on saturated fat intake so mam does her own recipies with cold pressed rapeseed oil as it doesn't saturate at high temperatures she made some lovely flap jacks yesterday a bit sweet though as put honey in I'm tryner cut down on sugar as that's bad too ☹️I used to put less than half the amount of sugar the recipies say and that was nice, i love short bread and ginger biscuits I'll have to have a go your pictures have inspired me πŸ˜‹I bet there wasn't much left after the guys got stuck in, enjoy your day πŸŒ„πŸš΄

β€’ in reply to

Thank you. Yes hubby helps with the washing up.πŸ˜‰

Very good idea to use cold pressed rapeseed oil, I'd never thought of the cold pressed. When o make my curries I've stopped using any fat/oil altogether.

I use Stevia a lot but I need to try it out in baking. I made some gorgeous brownies made using sweet potato, the sweetener is maple syrup but I'm going to have a play round with stevia.

I don't actually eat them, I leave that up to hubbyπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Hope you're having a good day.

Hello I was looking about sugar and some research shows it's worst than sat fat for blocking the arteries mam has coronary heart disease from smoking when younger and just not even knowing about cholestrol until hers was over 6 after her heart attack we did reasearch mine was 5 many years ago when I was a cook in a residential home using the good old beroe book lard and Marge for pastry ait was yummy tho and Marge for cakes I've never had much of a sweet tooth until I decided to stop drinking alcohol I've cut right down on the liquish toffees trebo chewy mints fruit pastels I thought I'd be better with sweets than chocolate ☹️you can't win I think I'd be better with the occasional tipple lol which I will have at Xmas and a tin of quality street😁 we go walking daily in the park so I sopose it's helping a bit I just so wish I could go swimming I was doing so well at it and getting really fit, I wasn't so bothered about eating or drinking back then , the cold pressed oil is expensive in Morrisons but on offer at Asda about 1 4o or aldis it tastes nice frying too hope you try it enjoy your evening πŸ€—

β€’ in reply to

Sugar isn't good at all but it's so hard to cut it out altogether. I do make all my own food though.

Sorry your mum has coronary heart disease, I'm so fortunate I only ever tried smoking very briefly at school and didn't like it.

It really is a shame about the swimming.

I'll have a look for the oil, thank you.

Hope you've had a lovely evening.

Just made the custard and white choc biscuits.Very moreish😊. I used the baking chocolate chips so next time I'll chop up a bar of chocolate as it's better quality and taste! I saw they do a rather tempting choc and cherry cookie on the website as well.......

β€’ in reply toMadBunny

I'm glad you've made them and are enjoying them. My hubby says they are really good, it's thanks to my youngest daughter as she found the recipe and made them before me. I do chop up chocolate from a bar rather than chocolate chips.

The other recipe does sounds good.

Happy baking.πŸͺ😊🌈
