Hi age! I love falafals, and my daughter is vegan, so we make / eat them quite often. My granddaughter (the now infamous Skye!), asked to feed the birds when she first started talking. we went to the shed and I gave her some suet balls to carry : "Oh Granny! Birdie falafals!)". I thought "How Wiatrose!" xx
Haha that’s lovely! Good to hear your daughter is vegan...Post any vegan recipe ideas Etc on the vegan forum if you can, also we might have some vegan recipes of interest on there, too🙂🌱
I really do love falafals with a bit of humus and salad. I have them quite often. I have never made my own, I might give them a try. Your's look good. 👍😊
They really were delicious. You have to boil the chickpeas etc not use canned ones but they were better than bought. I’d recommend doing the recipe x 3 if you’re greedy goblins like us! 😊
Yes. Honestly these are really noce. I’m going to add fennel seeds next time.
I shallow Fried to brown them and then popped them in the oven for 10 mins. On the recipe I’ve put a link to it says on there that you don’t have to deep fry. 🙂
Thanks Agoodenough, yes. I really need to start making my own again - your way. Kevork used to use Leeks in his - not onions and not garlic (it was a secret recipe but he did tell me that much). I stopped buying dried chick peas some time ago as they are such a faff and I wasn't having any success with my felafel. I still use them in other dishes, so tinned is fine but I can see they would be too wet for felafel. I also live with a meat eater who's a bit traditional, so it seems like a lot of trouble to go through just for me. Everytime we go out anywhere (I wish) I always have them when they are on the menu.
I agree they are a faff. The danger with me is I'd forget I was cooking them and go out! Cooked chickpeas last up to 4 days. Also I wonder if you made a batch of them if you could cook and freeze them. I'm definitely going to make a bigger batch next time. Let me know if you make them also post anything you enjoyed on here and we can all share our vegan ideas 🙂
That's an idea, but it's the soaking that takes most of the time I used to find, and they don't smell that good when being cooked. My partner does most of the cooking so it's not very practicable at the moment, especially with me being in so much pain from my back. But I will let you know how I get on.
