I love cooking and Iโ€™ve been on the hunt for new flavours from around the world. Iโ€™m quite new to Ras el Hanout and now Iโ€™ve discovered Berbere which is an Ethiopian mix of spices. So tonight I made this Ethiopian Stew. Here is a link to it for anyone who is interested or plant based/vegan.

I'm not vegan but that looks good. On the website you linked there is an African peanut soup that sounds good too. I love anything with the peanuts, especially Pad Thai.

Honestly it was delicious. I haven't had Berbere before so was looking forward to trying it. Yes I like the crunch you get with peanuts and I absolutely love thai food ๐Ÿ˜€

It looked absolutely delicious Ali and my kind of food! I'll definitely give this a go!

Oh really. How exciting that's great to hear. It was delicious. I got my spices from Spicemasters (on line)if that helps ๐Ÿ˜€

Oh thanks for that Ali. I was actually just looking up the spices and how to make my own Berbere. But I'd rather get it ready made for my first attempt, then I could maybe experiment with a mix of my own later. ๐Ÿ™

Thank you for sharing Ali. I've seen the photo and it looks scrummy ๐Ÿ˜‹๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ™

My father was the last generation of engineers to work in what was the colonies, I was born in West Africa, and have very fond memories of Ground Nut Stew (peanuts) and Goat Curry. Keep meaning to try the Ground Nut Stew myself.

The ras el hanout and the Berbere? Iโ€™d love to know what recipes you use them with. Iโ€™ve had Ras el hanout With vegetable chilli so far but thatโ€™s all??

I use the Ras el Hanout in morrocan dishes, the familyโ€™s favourite is Lamb Tagine. I use the Berbere as a rub on a beef joint and slowly pot roast it to develop the flavours.

Iโ€™ll have to do a bit of research and see what I can use it on. ๐Ÿ™‚
