I'd mentioned the woodpecker to Catrick so I'd thought I'd post the photo. They aren't the best photos but its very hard as the minute it sees you it flies away π

Crafty bird!
Quite an achievement to capture those at all Buddy34. Woodpeckers are notorious for the way they dash from spot to spot!
Well done on capturing it, I've not caught one on camera yet.
That's the trouble with birds very skittish good pic though
It's a very good picture. ππ
I have one too. Live listening to them.
They're great pics of the woodpecker, they're so flighty and take off if they think they're being watched. We have a very sneaky woodpecker too. Its hammered through all the squirrel feeders, chipping away at the woodwork. The nuts fall out. My other half has fitted plastic sides to the feeders which has confounded the woodpecker for now. Instead it heads straight for the peanuts and grease balls and scares off the other birds. Our European woodpecker is very pretty, with a strong red marking on its underside and a strong red cap. I must try and get a photo but he flies off so quickly. Your photos are great.
Hi Buddy34,
Forgot to say in earlier reply. We leave out peanut butter on the feeding tree for squirrels and birds and guess who eats most of it, the woodpecker!
Lovely to get these shots of the more nervy visitors coming to feed at our birding feeders! I wonder where the parents are? As this little guy is a young Juvenile as itβs exhibiting the Red area towards the front of the crown. It alters later on.
The Cock Pied Woody has a Red area, - but itβs at the back of the neck on the Nape - while the Hen has no Red around the head or neck at all.
Iβm sure you really enjoy the relaxation the garden birds bring to our Noisy world!
Keep snapping these super photos and look out for mum and dad! Iβm sure they are also visiting your garden too.
Aren't you lucky seeing this beautiful bird coming to feed at the bird feeding station?
I have enjoyed sitting in the garden recently with my binoculars. I haven't ever seen a woodpecker.
