Gefilte Fish: Lunch

These two Gefilte Fish pieces were part of my lunch today. They were really good and stayed together very nicely. Along with the Gefilte Fish pieces, I also had borscht, a diet soda and a small apple on the side. The entire meal was 47 carbs..

Hi Leah,

I've never heard of this fish, can you enlighten me?

TT.

Some people call it "fish spam". It's good and very low carb-- if any.:-)

What does it taste like? Does it takes like Haddock or Cod?

Not exactly, but it depends on the brand and how they make it. Some places have spices mixed in while others just make them with jelly to keep them together in a jar. We don't eat the jelly since it's mostly used for packaging and I don't eat it.:-)

I've just looked online to find out more about it. I've learnt quite a bit and wasn't aware that it's a Jewish food.

Yes, it's usually used at Passover and a few other Jewish holidays. It has its own unique taste.

I watched some Youtube videos whereby people tasted it for the first time. It got mixed reactions and didn't look very appetising to me, but each to their own.

It depends on the person. My sister in law doesn’t like it because she didn’t have it when she was growing up.

It taste like nothing or cardboard. it is only my jewish opinion...take or leave it!

I hate gefilte fish, My mom tries during my childhood and herrings or borsh!

Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions about food and other topics. My sister-in-law doesn't like gefilte fish, either, so no worries. Eat what you enjoy. :-)

can I speak to ur sister in law? Just kidding!

Hi Leah, now that's a famous fish dish. Do you make your own?

No, but that’s because we don’t have any of the ingredients here for it.

My grandparents ate it. Seems to have an unfortunate name.

I make this sometimes. Great with chrane (beetroot and horseradish)
