Compassionate action starts with seeing yourself when you start to make yourself right and when you start to make yourself wrong. At that point you could just contemplate the fact that there is a larger alternative to either of those, a more tender, shaky kind of place where you could live.

It is healing. Learning to use it by being willing to considering that there is a larger alternative to either of good or bad, right or wrong takes me to self-compassion more often and more effectively. It can still be a struggle to genuinely believe that there is a more tender, shaky kind of place where I can live. It gets a little easier the more I practice. 🙂
The Rumi quote is wonderful! Thanks for sharing. Yes, her name is Ema. She is my service dog. A therapist recommended I get a psychiatric service dog last year. She felt a service dog would have a more long term effectiveness than an emotional support animal. We are both still being trained. She is already very helpful.
I’m so sorry. Knowing Ema will age so munch faster than me was the hardest thing to come to terms with when deciding to get her. Do you think you might get another dog some day?
