For non-religious and religious: How do you understand the phrase “in spirit”?

Can a human be full in spirit and not generous in spirit?

Why does this author or anyone state that trust is a necessary piece?

“If we really want to be full and generous in spirit, we have no choice but to trust at some level.”

Interesting! I guess that to be generous in spirit, i.e. generous with your time and goodwill, requires a selflessness which is based on trusting the other person. They may abuse your generosity but you have to trust they won't.

Can I ask, what made you think about this in the first place?

I found it interesting. Do you think a human can be full in spirit but not generous? Would being full in spirit not lead to generous? To be generous only in the presence of trust sounds like a limit to the generosity. So what does it mean to be full in spirit?

Someone once said to be poor in spirit is to realize God is God and you are not. 😊

Yes, someone did. 😊

So can a human be poor in spirit and full in spirit? What does full in spirit mean to you?

Of course. Realizing and confessing that you are lacking in the things of the spirit like love, forgiveness and humility is the beginning steps of being full of the spirit. Sorry it took me so long I had to go out. 😊

Ist, answer, yes. 2nd answer, trust is a necessary piece because it completes us in our entirety. 3rd, answer, we do have a choice as we don't measure trust in levels, trust is unmeasurable. x

What does it mean to you to be full in spirit?

I know you can't be full of spirit unless you are generous in spirit, they go together like inhaling and exhaling. To me, I guess, to be full in spirit means understanding that, that means different things to different people and having the generosity, without judgement to accept that. x

it is interesting that you place generosity ahead of fullness. i tend to see it the other way around. from what reservoir do you give if it is not first full?

saying “without judgement” suggests giving without needing to trust. Does that make sense?

You see, what you ask is not a simple question and deep questions often raise more questions than answers. They are questions and answers that need deep consideration. You make a mistake also, I do not place generosity ahead of fullness. x

This questions deserve deep consideration...

You wrote, “I know you can't be full of spirit unless you are generous in spirit”. This suggests that one must be generous in spirit to then be be full of spirit. If it does not you are correct. My mistake.

If you read on, they go together, inhaling, exhaling. meaning two functions part of the same system equally important, The two working together to perform a perfect action, one can not work alone. x

No problem. A very difficult question to answer but I enjoyed thinking about it. x

Yes they can be full in spirit, especially if they have drunk it all! And of course, not generous for the same reason!! Regarding trust , the author is obviously a sports person, they would know that a trust is a necessary piece for the protection of ones assets!!

For me, 'in spirit' means the person has died.
