Hi 1tuppence,

I need to tell you first that this answer is based only on a little bit of research I did online for you, so I think that I'd err on the side of keeping it for less time, but most sources have given 6 months for the time it takes bleach to start to degrade.

There are other considerations too, as you'll probably be wanting to use it fairly frequently.

Remember that it can also bleach out colour, rot fabrics and more importantly is an irritant to your mucous membranes and lungs, and also your skin, even when diluted, so do be very careful about its use. Follow the guidelines and warnings given on the bottle.

But it is true that it's relatively inexpensive and effective as a disinfectant, and it is still fairly available, so I wouldn't say don't use it, just tread very carefully.

Take care and stay safe. ☀️

Thank you very much. Appreciate your help. I'm diluting it a lot, and using it to spray packages arriving at my front door, and also my dog's lead when she's returned from her walk. I also use it to disinfect any gloves...vinyl or latex, so they can safely be re-used. Does this sound right? Do I need to keep the large bowl of bkleach and water covered, do you know? Blessings xx

What proportion of bleach to water do you use to make a spray?

in reply to maria40

Hi maria40, if you decide to go ahead with this, follow the advice on the bleach bottle with regard to dilutions. An ordinary solution, as given, would be fine to spray too, but do be aware that when spraying, droplets may travel quite a long way. Look out for you fabrics and delicate surfaces. Very best wishes. 🌷

Is your dog one that sometimes likes to bite or carry its lead? if so, I would be very careful not to let them do that as it has been sprayed with the bleach.
