I started cleaning the case of books, mail, and other items in a shelving cabinet in our bedroom - in anticipation of watching Hoarders on television on Sunday.

Having our morning walk on either beach or clifftop. A good homemade healthy soup for lunch and with the weather being so good, we getting 4 or 5 hours work done in the garden. So far so good.

Stay safe all.

Okay, I know what you mean. My Grandmother usually gets together with my Aunt every Sunday, but since the virus came, they haven't had a chance to get together at all. They talk on the phone, but I know they would like to see each other, too.

I live in the US, but moved here from Brit. at the tender age of 22. I will be watching on PBS "Midsummer Murders". I love most British Stuff. I have lots of books which is good as the library is closed and I cannot get my British DVD's. You all have a lovely evening with peace and worry free.....Sprinkle 1...love/hugs

Reading autobiography of the two Ronnies - someone gave me the book a while ago but I hadn't got around to reading it! It is light and quite funny. In between getting up to do little jobs, or make a cuppa. l can't seem to settle to anything for long. Then go back to reading. Youngest daughter rang and has been rummaging in her loft, picked out a couple of jigsaws she is going to bring around. So we will have a go at that. Might help with DH. He has dementia. I keep trying to get him to do a crossword or read, or I find him little jobs to do, but all he really wants to do is sit and watch TV. Spoke to elder daughter. Her hubby and my grandson have been making a DIY gym in their garage. They had just had lunch; were going to take the dog for a walk and then play cards! Everyone trying to make the best of a dreadful situation. Let's hope we all come out of it stronger. Stay safe! xx

in reply toShelWhitt

I'd read somewhere that music is really good for people with dementia, I'll see if I can find the article, xx

in reply toShelWhitt

This was it, you've probably heard this before but in case you haven't, remember ...

"The science

Music is neurologically special in the way that it stimulates many parts of the brain at once. This means that even if parts of the brain are damaged, music can still reach other parts.

Evidence for the power of music generally

In September 2019 the World Health Organisation undertook a major study investigating the evidence for the health benefits of the arts. A section on dementia found evidence of multiple specific benefits including reducing anxiety and depression, supporting cognition, speech and memory, reducing the need for antipsychotic drugs, and fewer and shorter stays in hospital.

A major review in 2017 confirmed that ‘among sensory simulation interventions, the only convincingly effective intervention for reducing behavioural symptoms (specifically agitation and aggressive behaviour) was music therapy’. A second review that year showed ‘music intervention significantly reduces agitated behaviours in demented people’.

In 2018, a Cochrane review concluded that there was a need for more research in the area, in part because of the lack of consistency in methodologies across different studies. The reviewers were reasonably confident that music could affect mood and depression in people with dementia but could not draw definitive conclusions about other effects. They recommended that future research should specifically consider the duration of effects in relation to the duration of sessions.

The power of playlists

Practice of Playlist for Life is based upon the evidence-based Gerdner Protocol 5th Edition developed over the course of 20 years at Stanford University. In particular, Playlist for Life promotes the use of ‘therapeutic scheduling’, e.g. timing listening sessions for 30 minutes before difficult times or activities.

The protocol describes how correct use of playlists is proven to bring about reductions in (1) use of psychotropic medication (2) use of restraints (3) stress and distress (4) wandering.

These outcomes have all been observed in various small-scale evaluations of Playlist for Life within the NHS. You can review summaries of these studies below.

The Cruden Foundation is helping us to part-fund a PhD at Glasgow Caledonian University exploring the impact of playlists on the culture of care within care homes.

We collaborate with the world-renowned Prevent Group at the University of Edinburgh to understand the impact of music on dementia, build the health economy case and promote better public understanding of dementia.

My father(87 years old) loves watching the Lawrence Welk?sp? Show. Not only for the music, but the hairstyles and the clothes they are wearing! I think it brings him a lot of comfort for that 1 hour he gets to watch it each week! He talks about it all of the time!

I tried my hand at making home made pizza from scratch! The dough was the hardest part. And finding out that my yeast had a best used by date of 2016 didn't stop me from my goal! lol! Best pizza ever... But the crust came out like a new type of thin layer of cement! LMHO!!! Still good! My husband and I happily ate it, crunch, crunch, crunch! lol! While watching paranormal activity shows all day... One after another! You can tell my husband is in charge of the remote control in our house! lol!

You could try this next time, make your pizza dough from a flat bread recipe, the simplest one, and it works is literally flour and yoghurt, bit of seasoning, no yeast, and delicious. Look up Jamie Oliver’s easy flat bread recipe. Hope this helps,

Ok, bought the Greek yogurt and going to make it for sure! In the meantime, my husband went out and bought a store made El cheapo pizza! He knows that I can "fix it" up and make excellent pizza from a $2.00 pizza! I still want to say that I made one totally from scratch! So I'm going to try the yogurt and flour one and not tell him ahead of time! We'll see how today goes!
