A morning with Howard Keel

β€’27 Replies

Who's Howard Keel I hear a lot of you asking yourselves? Doesn't matter, it could have been any of your musical heroes. But Howard Keel and I have just spent an hour or two together. It started as I was listening to one of the tracks on a CD of his that I own.

After a couple of songs it really seemed he was inviting me to join him in singing. (He didn't seem to notice or care that I have a voice more akin to a crow than a nightingale). We sang our hearts out. But that wasn't enough for Howard.

He then asked me to dance too!

So we whirled around my tiny living room, both singing and dancing.

It was only after some time that I noticed I was actually dancing with a cushion and not Howard himself.

But it was really uplifting and positive, and I'd recommend something similar to anyone!

Have fun and take care of yourselves. 🀣🀣

A handsome man with a fabulous voice. I loved all the musicals he was in from the 1950

onwards.

I was lucky enough to meet Howard Keel when he was over in the UK promoting a comeback album. He had revived his career by starring in Dallas so released a new album My first husband worked in TV and had met him during an interview. HK then performed in Brighton and I was snuck in to meet him after the show having been given prior permission. I have to say it was the only time in my life that I have been awe-struck. The man was huge and literally radiated charisma! I am embarrassed to say that when he shook hands with me, I couldn’t let go. As we left through the stage door there were hordes of fans and there was this expectant sigh before they realised we were just ordinary people.

Thats so sweet! Our memories are part of our lives.

Haha TwasBrillig, I'd have been the same as you, had I ever been lucky enough to have really got close. What a fabulous thing for you. His very voice seems to ooze that charm and charisma. To listen to him is, for me, instantly relaxing. Have a great day.

My favourite of his Musicals was 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers'. Strangely, it's on my desk right now. Planning to watch it later!

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, was a lovely film. I haven't seen it for years, but you've sparked an interest in finding it and watching again! Take care and stay well.

I love Howard Keels voice so deep, I do hope you weren’t wearing your dressing gown at the time πŸ˜‰ I’m dressed, hair washed and make up on today ☺️

β€’ in reply to

Well I was dressed thank goodness. I'd have put on my dance frock if I'd known in sufficient time I'd find myself dancing around like that..... πŸ˜†

Someone after my own heart... such wholesome fun.. Oh dear this is getting too much... Now I'm remembering Sophia Loren and Cary Grant. He was my quintessential gentleman!

Do you remember those film star annuals ?
